Preview – Destiny Revealed

Introduction

We’re now early in the year 2149. We have recently been successful in our first test use of “liquid energy” in a model spacecraft. Liquid energy doesn’t exist on Earth, so our alien friends supplied us with a sample. We’ve lifted and propelled a model we hope will penetrate and travel through the fourth and fifth dimensions in our next test. These new dimensions are the reality of the “wormhole” myth, chased by scientists for centuries.

The entire world witnessed our successful initial test. Excitement and expectations couldn’t be higher for our Space Program.

Unfortunately, we just found out the U.S. President has been part of a cabal whose intent is to commandeer the Space Program for their own personal benefit. Just knowing this wouldn’t have concerned us, we would have been able to handle it. But their plan included bringing harm to my family and our team. Members of the cabal are unaware of our ability to see the future, to access human memories, or that through Cricket; we can track people and intercept communications between all people, the President included.

Last night, we put fear into the hearts of most cabal participants. Today, our gorgeous blonde spy (Kateryna) will make the President an offer he can’t refuse. She waits with the former President, now team member (Emily) who is unaware of the cabal. They patiently wait outside the Oval Office.

Forty minutes late, the door opens and several people walk by, heads down, looking very pale. Seeing their faces, Emily turns to Kateryna.

“I wonder what that’s all about?”

“I believe the President is about to resign.”

WHAT?!”

Before Kateryna could answer, they were ushered into the Oval.

Emily introduced Kateryna to the President, noting she was once a top spy for a European country.

Without otherwise speaking, the three moved to sit on the sofas facing one another. Kateryna began.

“Madam President, this may seem rather odd, but I believe you may want to leave at this time.”

“And why, Kateryna, would I want to do that?”

“I am about to expose this President’s efforts to harm our space team and dismantle everything you’ve accomplished.”

The President interrupted her.

“Emily doesn’t know anything about this?”

“No. Right now, all she knows is that she made an introduction. She knows my background as a top spy and as the coordinator for the Western Hemisphere of her Fast Start program.

“I don’t wish to embarrass you, Mr. President. I’ve come here today to convince you to resign your position, and thereby avoid certain information being released.”

Emily stood and put both hands on her hips, staring at the other two in the room. With eyes focused, she began.

“Will one of you please tell me what’s going on?”

The President stood and moved to behind his desk. With his head down, he finally spoke.

“Madam President, I’d like for you to leave so this lady and I can have a personal conversation.”

“Like hell, I will! I want to know what’s going on, and I want to know it right now. Kateryna?”

“It’s come to our attention this President has been deeply involved in a conspiracy to possibly commit murder. Certainly, to personally profit from the Space Program at the expense of other nations.

“In my folder, I have proof of this and those who he has surrounded himself with. With all due respect for you and this office, I’d like for you to leave knowing that, but nothing more.”

“Mr. President. Is what she just said true? Please tell me this is a terrible misunderstanding.”

Kateryna passed her folder across the desk.

The President began going through the materials but closed the folder after less than a minute.

The President spoke to Kateryna.

“I’d like to discuss resigning with the former President, if you don’t mind.”

Kateryna stood, placed her hand on Emily’s shoulder, and said as she prepared to depart.

“Madam President, I’m sorry for having to keep you in the dark, and using you to get an audience with this President.

“I have no interest in having any of this get out, so I hope the two of you can think of a way for him to quietly resign very soon.

“Since the Vice President is an android, I believe the people of this wonderful country will want to elect a human as their next President.

“I’m so sorry I had to deceive you, but we could not let this go on.

“Please call me when you’re finished.

“Mr. President, you have four hours to decide on what to do. What you have before you, are but a small sample of the materials and videos we have. I am sorry this had to happen.

“I love the United States, but your leadership of it has to come to an end.”

Chapter I – Change at the Top

Kateryna is one of six: Band of Sisters. Named after the WWII Band of Brothers, each Sister was their nation’s top spy. They helped in the bloodless transition of power in China during late 2129. Each has an implant in their skull allowing them to telepathically (without talking or actively hearing) communicate with each other, me, and any of the six Neuro androids.

Activating the neuro module, the most advanced android brain of its time, was the original reason I was awakened from a cryogenic sleep in 2129.

~ * ~

As she pulled away from the White House, she spoke telepathically to Kim (Sister for Japan and now Master of Cho – she can see the future), Diana (Sister for England, my wife, mother of our children Billy and Di who have many special gifts, including the highest IQ on Earth), and me.

Kim had planned this operation, so she began.

Well, was Emily angry and is the President going to resign? I’ve seen this but couldn’t tell when.

Emily was more upset with him than me, I hope. He asked her to stay, so she could help him resign quietly. I don’t think any of the cabal is going to give us any trouble from this point forward. Bill, my grey-haired father-in-law, you’d better get ready to make a run for the Presidency.

All three ladies were very excited; me, not so much.

Compared to our other operations as spies, and with Cricket helping; compiling the evidence against this President was a no-brainer. My seven-foot, three-hundred-year-old friend and mentor from the planet Sigma (Alpha), had given us an alert and said if the President had succeeded, the consequences for all of Earth would be dire. Diana wanted details.

Tell me what happened. I want to know everything. This is so exciting. I haven’t felt like this for years. Good thing the aging reversal pill is working, my heart is racing.

They talked, and planned, and talked some more. I grew bored with it all and left the call.

I set up a visual call with Griffin (the most advanced android on Earth, who has three personalities within his synthetic brain), and Mark (an android from the planet Sigma who can share the essence of Alpha, Earth’s three-hundred-year-old alien overseer, and mentor).

“Mark, can you have Alpha transfer his essence to you? I’d like to give him an update.”

Alpha (talking through his android Mark) began.

“Bill. I understand you have good news to share. And it went down without any bloodshed, how remarkable. There may be hope for Earth after all. I witnessed the meeting Kim had with cabal members last night; I wasn’t sure if they were performing or were serious. It worked, however, and for right now, that’s all that matters.” Griffin responded,

“Congratulations, Bill. Does this mean I will be wanted back in the White House for some extended period of time?” Griffin was the original android Vice President of the United States.

“You can bet on it. The android you built that’s in there now isn’t nearly powerful enough to manage the U.S. with all that’s about to happen. I’m sure Emily is negotiating your return right now. And if, I said IF, it comes to pass that I am in that position, I want you by my side.”

“Bill is correct. The activities on Earth will accelerate on several fronts from this point forward. What are your plans to run for the Presidency?”

“Talk with Emily, then see what Kim can see in her visions of the future, and you as well, then make a plan. I ran for elected public office once back in the twentieth century, but as I understand it, it’s completely different now. Are you sure this is right for me?”

“Not just for you, but for Earth itself. You are well-known in many alien civilizations. I have many requests to speak with you here on Sigma. This was before you achieved success in your Space Program. We’ve had this conversation before. This is your fate, your destiny. Embrace it. There’s much you can get done.”

Griffin wanted to get a little jab in. “Particularly now that you have taken the IQ pill and have us by your side. My Bill told me to tell you to relax and have a little fun with it.” Griffin smiled.

“Easy for him to say. He’s sheltered from all the work and will soon be immortal when he completely merges inside you.”

All three of us laughed. We continued to chat until my lovely blonde wife interrupted me with a root beer and a smile. Kim came to me, embraced me, and planted a big, wet kiss on my lips. We have a twenty-second-century arrangement. More on that later.

Kim began, “So, when do we start your campaign for President? This is just as I have foreseen it.”

“Yeah, well I’m going to wait for Emily to give me a little advice before I do anything. Besides, until he makes it official, it’s all just talk. I want to make sure the cabal is also taken care of.

“There have to be consequences for what they had planned. I want to get them close to Griffin, so we can check their memories for any contracts or such. We’ve still got a mess to clean up. You’re sure it’s just the four of us who know about all this?” Diana responded with a kiss of her own.

“Relax, my love. Griffin and Kim have the cabal all taken care of and nobody knows anything. I’d like to have been a fly on the wall of the Oval Office when Kateryna left them.”

“Yeah. I wish I’d told him to put a recording capability in her implant.

“That would have been fun…”

Griffin suddenly interrupted our conversation.

“There has been an explosion at the space program lab. I am attempting to account for our friends. Mark and Albert are not communicating at all. They appear to be offline. Billy is hurt. Di has not answered yet. I have requested a car on an emergency basis.” I addressed Kim.

“Kim (Cho Master who can see the future). I thought the explosion wasn’t going to happen when we changed our testing to a spacecraft model?”

“I suspect, the cabal had something to do with this. Either by the spy in our ranks or one of those impacted by the President’s upcoming resignation. I’m going with you.”

As soon as the car arrived, Griffin took over the controls telepathically. We were at the lab fifteen minutes away, in less than five minutes. There were flames everywhere and a dozen firemen attempting to get it under control.

Griffin and I tried to telepathically communicate with Billy and Di. Billy was in an ambulance being hooked up to an IV. He had several monitors as well. Billy couldn’t reach Di either.

Griffin patched into several of the androids within the lab. He still couldn’t get ahold of Mark or Albert (Billy’s customized android). The androids of the lab were searching frantically for Di or either android. Wading through the fire, they were using their mechanical strength to move debris, often while still ablaze.

Diana and Kateryna made their way to Billy in the ambulance. Griffin, Kim, and I pushed firefighters out of our way as we ran into the building. Communicating without our voices, we went to the area where Di was normally working. Kim and I pulled our shirts up over our noses to combat the smoke. We squinted going forward, while Griffin was going through Cricket to get a location on Di from her implant. Almost immediately upon entering the building, he pointed to our left.

With Griffin in the lead, the three of us moved everything in our way as we hurried to get to Di.

When we got to the lab where Di was located, the door was shut and the fire extinguishers in the ceiling were dispersing water everywhere, as flames rose and subsided within the large lab area.

There were walls, furniture, tables, and debris scattered everywhere.

This must have been where the initial explosion had occurred.

Griffin using his mechanical strength and using the locator from Cricket went for a large heavy table laying upside down atop something, we couldn’t tell what. There was no movement anywhere.

He grabbed the table legs, which had to be extremely hot, and threw the table out of our way. The eight-foot long, several hundred-pound table, crashed against a wall six feet away. Flames erupted where it landed.

There were large pieces of glass and chairs everywhere. After the table and several remnants of chairs were removed, we saw a blood trail under the remaining debris. From the locator signal, it had to be Di, not one of the human scientists.

The soles of two pairs of shoes were the first things seen. Kim made quick work of a second table to expose our two android friends laying on top of my daughter Di. There wasn’t any movement at all. Griffin, using his android mechanical strength, grabbed both androids by their arms simultaneously and lifted them several feet off the ground. They had covered Di who lay in a pool of her own blood, face down.

With Kim and Griffin making a path, I went for my daughter. Quickly but gently, I searched for a pulse in her neck. Thank God, I found one. I scanned her body for a source of blood.

“Griffin. Take our friends out of here. Kim. Help me get her turned over.”

Gently we moved her until we had her on her back. Her right leg was the apparent source of blood. Kim ripped off her shirt and began carefully wrapping it around a long, deep wound. It wasn’t pulsating, so I assumed it hadn’t cut an artery. I cradled her in my arms and with all the strength I could muster, I lifted her up off the floor.

Kim went to the opposite side of her, taking some of the burden of weight.

“I’ve got her. You look for other damage before we carry her out.”

Kim lifted her clothing rapidly in several spots. There was a sliver of glass in her hip next to my chest. Kim carefully pulled her away from my body and removed the glass. More blood seeped out.

She used a piece of Di’s clothing to apply pressure and pushed her against my chest.

“I think that will hold until we can get her out of here.”

Kim reached under Di and grabbed my upper arm area to relieve my weight stress. We began to move sideways in the direction we entered when Griffin suddenly reappeared. Gently he moved Kim away from Di and with his mechanical strength, lifted Di out of my arms.

Immediately, I went to her head to relieve the strain on her neck. I smoothed her lovely blonde hair out of her face and stroked her cheeks.

“You’re gonna be alright, sweetheart. You’re gonna be alright.

“We’ve got you now, so you’re gonna be alright.”

She was unconscious; a limp ragdoll with legs and one arm dangling, Kim’s shirt tied tight around her thigh.

How could this have happened? I motioned with my head for Griffin to begin moving.

Fifteen feet into the adjoining room, we met the first firemen. Rather than transfer her again and recognizing that Griffin was an android with incredible mechanical strength, they ushered him to the outside where she was laid on a gurney and quickly examined. As they bandaged her leg and hip, I washed her face with a damp rag. The firemen had moved Kim and Griffin aside. They wanted me out of their way, but soon gave in to my being at her side.

After several minutes, while still being examined, she batted her eyes before opening them very slightly. The relief I felt overwhelmed me like a wave crashing ashore.

I managed my best smile to present a façade of peace and having the situation under control.

“You’re alright sweetheart. Just relax. They’re fixing you up before they take you for a little ride. Just relax. Your mother will be here in a second. She’s with Billy. He’s going to be fine as well.

“Everything is under control and you’ll be just fine. Just relax.”

“Daddy. I love you.

“Mark and Albert saved my life. They dove at me and covered me up. Are they okay?”

“They’re around here somewhere. Don’t worry about them. You just need to relax right now. Let the doctors do their job and there’ll be plenty of time to figure all this out. Just relax, sweetheart.”

As I continued to wipe her face with a damp rag, she closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. With Kim and Griffin hovering around the medical team, Diana broke through the ranks and took over with my rag.

“I’m here Di. Mommy’s here. You just lay there and they’re going to fix you all up. Your brother’s fine. He said for you to muscle up.” She tried to chuckle. It didn’t work. “He’s on his way to the hospital right now and you’ll be right behind him. You’re going to be just fine.”

She turned to me and I smiled and nodded my head affirmatively. They were ready to move her, so I backed away. Diana stayed with her, accompanying her in the ambulance. I told Kim to go with them and turned to Griffin. He was severely burned in several places. Part of his clothes had been burnt off. The skin on his hands and arms was partially removed. He looked a wreck.

I silently called Billy. He answered he was being transported to the hospital and was okay. Griffin and I went to the car we came in and sat down.

After a big sigh of relief, I began with a small smile.

“You’re a mess, dude. We’re gonna have to get you fixed up too. Do androids hurt?”

“No. The pressure feeling in my hands has been damaged. The other parts are superficial. All can be fixed. Looks like I may get to use some new skin with feeling now, right boss?”

He tried to return my smile.

“What the hell happened Griffin? What have you found out?”

“Several androids identified a scientist on the team walking into the facility with an old briefcase. I suspect he was the cabal spy we heard about.

“They said he was ranting and raving about our President and threatening to blow the place up. Mark and Albert were in the room with him along with Di. Billy was in an adjacent room.

“Apparently, as Mark went for Di to shield her, Albert did the same thing. Albert sent the spy into sleep land, just as the bomb exploded. That is the last thing anyone knows. The large table had to be between them and together with Mark and Albert, it likely saved Di’s life.”

“So, this was caused by the cabal? By someone close to this President? Is that what you’re telling me?”

“It would appear that is what happened. We will be able to retrieve the rants of the bomber and assess what his motivation was, from the androids. He is obviously blown apart, so I doubt we would be able to retrieve his memories.

“With that said, it appears this was a result of the cabal’s plans being disrupted.”

“If that turns out to be the case, I’m not sure we should let the President resign and walk away without someone answering for the damage caused here today. If Billy or Di is severely injured from this, I’m not sure I’d be able to turn the other cheek. In the meantime, please get me a list of everyone we know who participated in the cabal and tag them in Cricket.”

“Bill. Are you sure you want me to do that? I think you know my feelings for Billy and Di, but doing what you are telling me to do, suggests you have retributions in mind. Am I misreading it?”

“For right now, just do it. That’s an order. I’ll decide what to do with it after Billy and Di are out of trouble. I’m not sure retributions is the right word. Justice might better describe what I’m thinking about. I’ll want to chat with Emily and seek counsel from Alpha. By the way, what happened to Mark and Albert?”

“I suspect the bomb’s concussion caused them to shut down. We will know soon enough from them as well. Albert is being constantly backed up, in your old terms, so he can be repaired and not lose anything of value on the projects he is working on. Mark, I would think would have the same or better systems. I would expect a visit from Alpha though. Besides his counsel, he will want to assess any damage that has occurred to Mark.”

“Alpha’s essence was in Mark talking with us when all this happened. I suspect that would be virtual and no harm would have come to Alpha, right?”

“That would be my assumption as well.”

“Alright. Please have another android check on Mark and Albert. Have a status sent to me as soon as possible. You’re more in control than me right now, so get ahold of Alpha and let him know what’s happened, and ask how he’d like to take care of Mark.

“And oh, tell him I owe him big for this and thank him.

“Let’s get to the hospital and check on the kids.”

Billy had just been released when we arrived at the hospital. He greeted me with a man-hug. Kateryna (his wife) was standing at his side. The four of us chatted briefly about the situation.

They were both more prone to retaliate than me. Kateryna being a former spy, I understood. Billy took me a little by surprise.

“Katerina has filled me in a little bit. Why didn’t you tell us about the cabal, Dad?”

“I’m sure she also told you, we thought we had it under control. Did she tell you the President has agreed to resign through her efforts?”

“Yeah, but this is totally unacceptable.”

His mounting rage triggered his telekinetic capabilities, moving paper and loose materials around like there was a strong wind going through the hospital.

After a few seconds, a chair whizzed by me crashing into a wall with enormous force, breaking it into little pieces. I looked around amazed, then turned to Griffin and Kateryna. I ended by talking to Billy.

“You’re doing this right? You need to calm done, Son. This is a family matter now and we’ll deal with it as a family. I told Griffin I wanted to talk with Emily and Alpha before deciding on what to do. I suspect the person who did this was acting on his own. He’s been taken care of.

“If there are others like him, or if there was a contract put out…” I paused, looking down and shaking my head remembering the contracts on me during the China situation in 2129.

“Well, Kateryna knows that’s a much more serious matter. I doubt that is the case, but we’ll be able to tell with our memory access.

“I need for you to calm down and I want your word, you’ll do nothing without consulting with me first. Do I have your word?”

Every piece of furniture in the room we were in was moving around on their own.

“This isn’t right, Dad. This just isn’t right.” He turned away from me and I could feel the rage building up in him again. Another chair was ready to be air-bound. I caught Griffin and his guests talking to Billy telepathically, telling him he should remain calm.

“I want your word, Billy. You’ll do nothing without first getting my okay.

“Do I have your word, Son?”

After a few minutes, he gave me his word. Kateryna embraced him and comforted him, trying to get him to calm down.

A few minutes later, smaller objects began to fly around the room again, then several upholstered chairs that each must have weighed fifty pounds, prepared for liftoff.

I grabbed his arm and glared at him. He relented. After he calmed down, I wondered, what would have happened if he had said, the hell with you, old man. I couldn’t have stopped him even in as good a shape as I’m in. Griffin could, but I wouldn’t have wanted him to. It was an interesting predicament.

We’d have to talk about this later.

“Okay. Let’s go down the hall and check in with your Mother. Remember, she can sense these things. Kateryna, you need to help calm him down.”

“Bill, this is the first time I’ve seen him like this, and with his gifts, I’m not sure any of us can calm him down right now. There was an attempt on his life and that of his sister. He should be pissed.

“If he wasn’t, I’d be shocked. I’m surprised you’re not angrier.”

Griffin interceded, “Bill is angry. He is very angry. He is also very calculated in what he will do about this. He has already instructed me to do something that would suggest many people might pay for this.

“Yes, Billy, we will take care of this. Please follow his lead for now. We can all discuss this later.”

“Alright. Are we ready to take a stroll down the hall?”

I tried to manage a smile, but to no avail.

Diana greeted us at the door. Kim, having given her shirt as a bandage for Di’s leg, had only her bra on above her waist. Her upper body muscles were flexing and relaxing as she watched the doctors sewing Di up. Di was awake and alert, sitting up. She greeted us with a silent message.

Hey. I could feel Billy’s anger all the way down here. Kim is concerned he might retaliate and make matters worse. Are you under control big brother?

No, but Dad made me promise not to retaliate on my own. How’re you?

They’ve deadened my leg and hip, so they could sew my wounds up. The doctors checked me for a concussion, but their tests were inconclusive. I’m sure I’ll be sore for a few days, but I’m fine. What’s the status of Albert and Mark? They saved my life. Everything happened so fast, I saw this guy yelling something about our President, then the lights went out. Nobody will tell me anything. What happened? How are Albert and Mark? Griffin responded,

They are back online and asking about you and Billy. Both will be fine but will likely need a little work done on their systems. Mark was burnt pretty badly, and Albert had several what would be called broken bones if he were human, but both will be fine in a short while.

That’s great. Please tell them I’m alright and thank them for me. I’ve tried several times to reach them without success. Please relay that to them for me. Thank you, Griffin.

When the doctors finished up and all the computer forms had been taken care of, we all talked while on our way home. It could have been much worse. It reminded me of my spy days, only I was the target then, not my children. This will not be allowed to stand.

~ * ~

When we arrived home, Emily was waiting. Griffin had called her and briefed her about the situation. She had called the President and demanded a second meeting for later this evening. She carefully embraced Di, then her eyes turned to steel.

It was hard to determine what her frame of mind was, but we’d know soon enough. We all found seats in our living room.

“Alright, this is totally unacceptable, and I’ll be meeting with the President again tonight.

“We had an understanding, but I’m not sure it’s worth anything right now. I understand why you didn’t want anyone else to get ahold of the materials you gave him, he was guarding them with his life. I didn’t get a peek at them. They must be very bad. But this is just unacceptable.”

She paused for a few seconds, searching the eyes of those of us in the room.

“So, here’s the understanding we came up with, before all this happened. First, we’ll bring Griffin back to be the VP. He’s only been gone for a couple of weeks and nothing has been announced formally, so we planned to do that tomorrow.”

She stood and walked around the room shaking her head and rubbing her eyebrows.

“Second, He’ll announce his resignation on Friday of next week. At that time, he’ll say it’s a personal issue and hope the people of the United States will respect his privacy. He’ll appoint me as an interim President until a vote can be held within thirty to sixty days. Besides one Senator he knows of, no one else is interested in the position that hasn’t been compromised by what he saw.

“He will also announce his support for Bill as the next President.”

Everyone but me wanted to go crazy but was somewhat restrained given the situation.

“Here WAS the rest of the plan. When he announces, Griffin, the Vice President, and me, the former President will be by his side. After I’ve thanked him for his service, praised him, and wished him well, I’ll explain the plans for an orderly succession of power. He’ll come back and announce his endorsement of Bill, which I’ll follow with essentially a second to his endorsement.

“I’ll also announce the beginning of weekly briefings with Bill and any other candidate who receives over thirty percent in the national polls. I suspect with our endorsements and with the country knowing Bill and our relationship, the vote will simply be a formality.

“Griffin will acknowledge the transition and explain the process for nominating and polling for candidates. Bill, you’ll need to have an acceptance video ready, along with a platform within twenty-four hours of his endorsement. The man ultimately responsible for hurting you, will be leading the parade for your election. Ironic, don’t you think?”

“And that’s it?” She paused before answering.

“Tell me if I’m wrong. No one knows about this cabal stuff, other than the people in this room, right? Hell, I had no idea until Kateryna sprang it on him and me at the same time. He wouldn’t share anything but was more than willing to make this deal to save his own hide. I suspect the hides of others were on his mind as well. I assume Griffin will know who they are, and we can deal with them separately and quietly.”

I followed while looking at Kateryna, Kim, and Diana,

“I think it’s going to be a little more complicated than that. We’ll deal with them separately for sure, I’m still working on what that might be. We’ll have to wait and find out more about how the explosion went down. Emily. Given what’s happened since the deal was made, what are your thoughts?”

“I certainly understand your desire to balance the scales a little more, but remember, this is the most powerful position in the world we’re talking about here.

“Let’s give it a night to settle and see who’s involved before we start a campaign of revenge.

“There will have to be an investigation of the explosion. I’d think we could wrap the investigation around what you know about the cabal. Keep your hands clean and let the system work for you.

“There’s no part of my deal that prohibits justice from being served. That’s my counsel to you right now. If I knew more, I’m not sure what I’d suggest. Let’s sleep on it and revisit it in the morning.”

I asked Diana what she thought and let her vent for a while.

Kateryna and a fully dressed Kim both said they thought Emily’s idea was a good one. Griffin said he could use the time to put together a summary of those involved. He also reminded everyone he could access memories to do exactly what Emily was suggesting. He thought the system might serve us well. After everyone had their opportunity on the floor, I tried to summarize.

“I don’t think I can ask my son to stay calm, while I’m plotting revenge within an hour of the event. Griffin, I want you to get yourself fixed up with our new skin. Use as much as you want as a thank you for all you’ve done for us today. Same for Albert and get me an update on him when you can.”

“Thank you. I plan to work on the summary as well. You know some of us do not need sleep.” He smiled. “I will send you what I know, when I know something.”

Everyone chuckled. It seemed to break the mood in the room.

I continued, “Emily. Find out all you can from the President in your meeting tonight and tell him there might be other casualties with other cabal members. I think unwittingly, he may have put another wildcard in our hand. Di take your meds and get to bed. You need some rest right now, sweetheart. Billy, thank you for staying calm. I’ll see you and Kateryna tomorrow sometime. Kim. I’ll need a strong workout and meditation tonight, but right now I want to see if Alpha is available. Is everyone okay?”

Diana was still angry, but between the ex-President and our spies, I thought I could get away. I went out on our patio and settled into a comfortable chair. I sent a silent message to Mark/Alpha.

Alpha answered, We were able to catch some of the conversations from Griffin. You’re wise to give it some time to play out. I wish I could have warned you, but ‘free will’, like that of the bomber cannot be seen ahead of time, even by Kim. I wanted Mark to stay on Earth until we talked because you lack communication capabilities with me by yourself. He’ll now return, and we’ll fix him up as needed. His systems are all intact and his shut-down was temporary.

Thank you and Mark for protecting Di. Although it wasn’t what we had anticipated, his android-quick response along with Albert’s saved her life. I’ll be forever in your debt, my friend.

You’re very welcome, my friend. Now is a critical time for you. My counsel to you is the same you gave to the President of Poland when Soha was shot. I believe you said, ‘Revenge is best-served cold’. Those around you are smart. With the tools you have, you should be able to get your revenge while staying above the fray. That’s the advice you seek from me right now. Counsel on the Presidency can wait until later. Take care of your daughter and wife. The Presidency is where they need to see your attention placed. Griffin and Emily can handle the rest.

Thank you. I look forward to seeing Mark in a couple of days and I’ll check in when things settle down. Thank you again. Bill out.

Kim is a Cho Master. As such, when she meditates, she receives visions of the future. She frequently sees multiple versions based on how far into the future they are and the circumstances surrounding the person in her visions.

Since her youth, she has exercised her magnificent body using dynamic tension on major muscle groups. Her muscle mass is incredible but barely noticeable beneath her silky-smooth skin.

Her exercises make her exceptionally strong. Meditation keeps her healthy and allows her to heal, at an accelerated pace. She’s taught Diana, me, and Billy how to exercise and meditate.

Cho is an intelligent energy universe much like our heaven. It exists somewhere far outside our universe. Kim has learned over the years how to contact Cho through her meditation chants. Billy and Di, because of their gifts can also communicate with Cho. Cho somehow manipulates the fourth and fifth dimensions to see the future. They took me into the future in an energy bubble many years ago.

Because I have died twice before and visited the energy source, our heaven, I have special capabilities where Cho is concerned. Before Diana and I were married, Kim and I created great energy when our bodies touched, flesh to flesh. We are so well connected we became merged within the Cho scriptures.

Kim and I care for one another, even though Diana and I are happily married. Diana knows and is comfortable with Kim living with us. They were great friends as spies. It was Diana’s suggestion for Kim to live with us, so Kim could be close to me. There is no envy or jealousy between the ladies.

My twentieth-century values wouldn’t allow such an arrangement, but this is the twenty-second century and I must admit, I feel no remorse whatsoever about the arrangement.

After workouts, showers, and meditation, it is common to massage one another. Sparks still fly between Kim and me when flesh touches flesh during massages, indicating the Cho energy still flows between us. This has something to do with us being merged. She will often press my temples to receive visions of what I will be involved in. So, during tonight’s massage, Kim pressed hard on my temples.

As sometimes happened, I became unconscious. Diana woke me on one side with Kim kneeling on the other side. I’m the only one Kim can tell, about visions she sees with me in them.

“Have I been out long?” Diana answered.

“Not long. I wanted to hear what Kim saw, so I woke you.”

Kim began, “You have an important choice ahead of you. The cabal will be taken care of by the investigation surrounding the explosion, so you were right about that. You can make it much more difficult for them because of the memory access capabilities you have. That’s unimportant, however.

“In one path, your desire for vengeance is great. You use it to destroy this President. Doing so, will cause great doubt in government, much like your days in the twenty-first century.

“In another path, the explosion and the President are never connected, and you achieve great things. Obviously, I recommend this path.”

“You think the President should get away with this?”

Diana was still upset as Kim answered.

“That’s not the point. If your children were more seriously hurt, I would be all for making him personally pay a heavy price. But, destroying a President you’re about to follow can make things difficult for you to achieve what you will want to achieve in the future. You would have to spend time and energy to rebuild trust, even though he had nothing to do with it.”

“There’s more. What else did you see?”

Her facial expression suggested danger.

“Immediately after being sworn in, there will be another less friendly force who will offer you much to win your confidence. You will be deceived, and it could lead to your death.

“The alien or human is a she. She will be beautiful, remind you of your Linda, and try to come between you and your family. She will have control over your mind like I’ve never seen before. That’s all I can tell you right now.”

“Do you know more, or is that it?”

“I’ve told you all I can, more actually than I should have. To this person, you are very vulnerable.”

“Would Alpha be able to tell me more?”

“That’s a discussion you should have with him. He communicates with Cho, but he doesn’t get visions from them. I’d encourage you to talk with him. You still have to deal with this President. I expect Emily to call after her meeting yet tonight to talk with you. She may have additional information for you to consider.”

I knew Kim had gone beyond what her scriptures allowed her to tell me, so the three of us talked about pressing Emily for more information. After a while, Diana came around to Kim’s suggestion of not implicating the President. In Kim’s mind, there was too much to get done to create another obstacle.

After thirty minutes, Emily did call.

“Good, I can see all three of you. The President swears he was not involved. He knows he has supporters on edge right now, but he said he’d never condone hurting your children. I tend to believe him. I also know Griffin will be able to tell if what he said is true or not. He told me to give you his most sincere apology. He seemed remorseful.”

“So, I take it you’d agree with these other beauties. Let the investigation run its course and not link the President to it in any way?”

“I really think that’s right. He’s willing to endorse and work for your election. I think he’s sincere. I suggested moving the announcement up, to try to take the emphasis away from the explosion. He doesn’t know anything about memory access and we have judges sworn to secrecy who will accept memories as evidence.

“I’d say find a couple of the ring leaders and prosecute them. The word will get out to the rest of the group and let the explosion go down as an accident. I know that’s hard to swallow, but that’s what I’d recommend.

“I think even Billy and Di would understand given the situation, and knowing some will pay a price for being involved. What do you think?”

“I’ll want to talk with the kids tomorrow, but my gut tells me you’re right, and it’s the right approach to take. You still don’t know who or what?”

“No, and I think I’ll pass on more intel. I might give you another recommendation based on the people involved or the plans they had. You’re on the cusp right now. The Presidency is a very big deal.”

“It sounds like you’ve given this some serious thought. I’d tend to agree with you. I’ll ask the kids tomorrow. Diana or Kim, anything on your mind regarding this?”

They both looked at one another, then shook their heads negatively. I thanked her and told her I’d let her know if the kids thought differently. After a good night’s rest, I suspected they’d be in agreement.

I was exhausted, more mentally than physically. Diana and I lay in one another’s arms, thankful it ended without anyone being seriously hurt. Just before I dozed off, Diana wanted to talk.

“I know about Kim’s visions, and I suggested our arrangement with Kim, but I’m having trouble here. Could another woman really come between us?”

“Not with me being conscious. I took Kim’s vision as there being a spell or something she could cast on me. Physically, now that you’re getting younger…”

As the words left my mouth, my brain wanted to pull them back. Because of the drugs given to me during my surgery while I was still in a cryogenic deep freeze, I don’t age. I’m stuck at 35. Our friends from outer space have given our team pills that will reverse the age of those who take it by seventeen years with the passing of a single year.

Our alien friends know there is much work to be done here on Earth. That’s why they gave us the pills for our team.

Diana sat straight up in bed, hands on her hips.

“What did you just bloody say? Now that I’m getting younger. Is that really what you just bloody said?”

“No, well that’s not what I meant. I mean the reverse-aging pill has dropped about seven years, and you’re even more beautiful now, than you were…”

I just kept digging when I should be looking for a ladder.

She got out of bed and went into the bathroom. When she returned, she was in my favorite transparent satin bra and silk panties. She stood in front of me and slowly turned around. I spoke,

“That’s why I call you Stunning. You’re gorgeous. There could never be someone who could come between you and me. The memories of Kiev and D.C. could never be replaced. You’re the only one I care about. You know that. Now come here.”

She pouted for a few seconds, then proceeded to try to relive my memories. For the rest of the night, I was glad I stuck my foot in my mouth. It was great fun.

The next morning, I made my rounds. First with Di, who was sleeping in, now feeling the effects of yesterday’s adventures without drugs. She was fine with my decision. Her aches and pains were replaced with excitement about living in the White House.

At fourteen, you have to have your priorities straight, I guess.

Billy and his wife Kateryna were next. Apparently, they had given it considerable thought and discussions. He wasn’t angry any longer and they both told me they had confidence my decision would be best for all.

Kim, Emily, and Griffin were all fine with it as well. Diana came down a little late.

“Having trouble recuperating from last night?” I smiled.

In return, she threw a pillow at me from the living room sofa.

It was all good.

Chapter II – The Presidency

The current President made his announcement and endorsement. I made a video, with a great deal of help and input from everyone. In it, I thanked the current President for his service, noting the tremendous toll it takes on a person, and wished him well in the future. I also thanked him for his endorsement.

I then spent a good deal of time talking about working with the former President (Emily), highlighting all her accomplishments for the nation, then, I outlined my agenda for running in four areas.

First, to continue the Fast Start efforts to better prepare children around the world, and in particular, those of the United States focusing on android caregivers and their contributions.

Second, to work hard on the Space Program and bring its successes to all nations, once again concentrating on the role of the United States and our Ocean Farming and Mining efforts.

While on this topic, I stressed the successful relationships we had and would continue to have with our alien friends. With several pictures and videos of Alpha and myself to remind everyone of my involvement.

Third, I focused on our national pride with global results, improving lives and reminding everyone of the peaceful times we live in. I pledged to continue to put the needs of our country at the top of my priorities and suggested our best days were ahead of us. This was to become my theme: our best days were ahead of US. The US had multiple meanings. Di suggested this.

Finally, I played Emily’s endorsement where she listed several achievements I played a significant role in. Pictures of Riley’s Nobel prize, the Chinese change in government, and her Space Travel and Fast Start programs.

We ended the video with my initial address to White House dignitaries where I pumped my fist in the air and started a “U.S.A.” chant much to the delight of all who attended. It was effective and fun. Everyone did an incredible job on it. The ladies played it in the house for days afterward.

Two other candidates announced their candidacy. In the first national poll, I garnered seventy percent approval, with the other two splitting the remainder, meaning I was the only one being briefed.

A series of debates were scheduled. The first had all three candidates. I was ready to use Griffin but didn’t need him. Interestingly, the other two went after each other. The polls after the first debate had me gaining seven points. After two weeks the other two candidates conceded publicly. The national vote was taken, and I received over ninety percent. It was surreal, and very humbling.

~ * ~

Three weeks after the resignation, I had been elected President of the United States. Everyone on our team and in our family was overjoyed, even though most of them already knew what the outcome was going to be.

It was surprising to me they still had an inaugural address from the steps of Congress. After I went through several scripts with re-write after re-write, I settled on a short thank you.

“My fellow citizens of this great, great country. You have honored me and humbled me by electing me to be your President. I will do my best to be deserving of your trust, your confidence, and your votes. Let me start with a very simple phrase, thank you.”

As I spread my arms wide and bowed my head to all those around. Those on stage stood and applauded.

“My campaign was centered around the concept that our best days are before US.” I extend my arms, meaning to everyone.

“I think it’s safe to say, I’m a living, breathing example of that.” There was light laughter all around.

“So, I’d like to briefly talk about what I see as this great nation’s tomorrow. Because together, we will improve it, with each new day.

“Today, we’ve eliminated the ability to create war. We’ve formed a world where nations respond to their citizens, and few are oppressed by their governments.

“We’ve turned our attention and technology toward improving the world’s children, so every child, regardless of where they live or the social or economic environment they live in, each and every child will be prepared to take their place in a better tomorrow.” I paused as there was applause.

“We are soon to take our place among those who can travel between the stars.” I looked toward the heavens.

“We will share great discoveries with all the people of Earth.

“We will continue to invest in our children’s health and increase their understanding of all things, because they are our future, and because of our efforts, our future is very bright.

“We will strive to improve every life and extend a hand to every person, so they may reach their full potential, not just for them individually, but for mankind as well.” I paused looking at the people before me.

That, my fellow citizens, will make our nation’s future extremely bright.” There was great applause and cheering.

“I’m convinced we will soon be a part of an alliance of worlds, where knowledge and advancements are shared by all, without a price tag or demand of any kind.

“We will collaborate with civilizations that will bring great discoveries, while we maintain our individual freedoms, values, and very importantly, our culture.

“We will travel to distant universes, never before thought possible as we master the dimensions of space.

“And we will continue to honor our traditions and those who have made this day possible.

“After all, we are Americans.” Strong applause followed.

“We are a unique experiment in governance, altered over time, but dedicated to freedom and personal responsibility. ‘From many, one’, ‘from sea to shining sea’, ‘where all men are created equal’, ‘the land of the free’, ‘the home of the brave’, and perhaps most importantly, ‘in God we trust’, we are ALL Americans.”

Everyone was standing, applauding, and shouting.

“So, let me conclude with a tribute to those who have made America great.” I stopped and looked over the crowd before me. I pointed with my right index finger.

“Each of you, makes America great every single day.

“Each of you, contributes to the good of your country and the good of all mankind.

“Each of you, furthers the spirit and cause, that is America.

“So, I honor YOU, as you have honored me.”

Once again, there was a great response, before I continued.

“And there is one particular person on the podium today, who exemplifies everything that makes America great. So, I’d like to honor that person as well.

“A person who I have great respect and admiration for. A delightful lady who has dedicated her life to serving you, the American people, and in so doing, has improved lives all around the world.”

“Thank you, madam President. Thank you, my friend, Emily.

“I’ll try to live up to the high standards you’ve set for this office.”

I turned and with my hands ask her to stand and be recognized. When she did there was thunderous applause until she sat. I concluded my comments.

“So, thank you, my fellow citizens, for putting your trust in me. I honor you with three simple letters.”

I turned and winked at Emily, then pumped my fist in the air shouting, U S A.

By the third time, everyone was on their feet joining in with big smiles and enthusiasm.

I bowed and raised my hands waving to the crowd. It was good. A little unconventional, but good.

~ * ~

I broke with the tradition of the evening’s formal affairs. As on my wedding and Billy’s, instead of a black tux, I wore grey in honor of the Sisters and our adventures.

I had a lovely necklace made for each Sister, with their name engraved on the back and a simple “Thank you, Bill”. Around the edge of a gold oval were six, one for each Sister, rather large diamonds. In the middle was a stylistic “S”, like Superman or in this case Superwoman, atop a background of 3 flames. It turned out lovely. As I greeted them backstage at the first event, I decorated their lovely necks.

Carson was the first. She chuckled at the flames. I explained,

“Now that each of you is dropping years, like hot rocks, I figured you’d be returning to your days of burning hot.”

A reference to how these beautiful ladies conducted themselves when we first met as spies.

They each loved it and rewarded me with warm hugs and kisses. Diana had a beautiful diamond necklace I had given her after Billy was born. She quickly put her diamond necklace on Di, and proudly wore her new necklace all night with the other ladies.

Billy had a big smile when Kateryna explained the meaning of the fire.

Also at the first event, after a brief welcome, the ladies had a surprise for me.

As Diana and I made our way to the middle of the dance floor, they dimmed the lights and a hologram of my granddaughter Haley appeared. They remembered her dedication to me, long after my death and while she was a popular singing artist.

When Haley began to sing, there was a spotlight on us. After a few seconds, I silently asked Billy to bring Di onto the floor to take her mother’s place. After some hesitation, she complied.

As Billy began dancing with his mother, I held my hand high for my daughter to twirl. She did so beautifully, then father and daughter had a lovely time dancing to Haley’s beautiful voice.

With tears on my cheeks, it was magical.

When Haley finished, the band began to play and the ladies in my life lined up for a portion of the next dance. Billy had a surprise waiting for several, so as I danced with my daughter-in-law Kateryna, Billy put a beautiful set of pearls around the necks of Emily, Riley, little Riley, and Taylor.

Kateryna spoke as we danced.

“I don’t know what to say to you for all you’ve done for me. Billy and I could not be happier, and he is his father’s son in so many ways.” She smiled. “There are so many things I want to thank you for. But I can see the line forming quickly. Please know that I love Billy and you, just in a different way. You were my first true love and Billy is my forever love and soulmate.” She chuckled.

“Wow! Every time I see you, I marvel at your beauty. I’m glad my son got you locked up before someone else got you. Seriously, I can’t think of anything or anyone that makes me happier than you. Smart, beautiful, and with all the spy skills, you are a joy to be around. Thank you, for making my son the happiest guy in the room.”

She stopped and kissed me gently on the lips, as Emily cut in on her.

This process repeated itself for all the women in my life. They each shared a special moment with me and in return, I tried to let them each know how much they meant to me. Before each one left my arms, I was rewarded with a tender kiss and warm embrace.

After Emily and each of the Sisters shared a dance, Riley followed suit.

“Good grief! This is turning into an orgy in the middle of the dance floor.” She laughed. “Thank you, for the necklace. It’s beautiful. And thank you, for including Matthew and me in your world. From the moment I read your file, I was hooked. I just knew you were meant for greatness in our time. I’m pleased to have been a small character in your book of life.”

“You’re kidding me, right? Without you awakening me, and without your help with Griffin, none of this happens. I want to thank YOU. You’re my lifeline, always remember that. And, as far as you and Matthew are concerned, you’re both mission-critical. With his brains and your beauty, that’s what makes my world go around. So, thank you, and please thank Matthew for me.”

As she was tapped, she gave me a kiss. I told her to bring little Riley up for a dance with the President. She smiled that warm and loving smile I’d come to love. Taylor was next in the dance line.

“Thank you, for my necklace and for all the joy, peace, and happiness you’ve brought into our lives. My daughter is right behind me. She wanted to dance with the President. John and I are so happy for you and Diana. We know you’ve got some miracles left inside that gorgeous body of yours.” She chuckled.

“Thank you, Taylor. I think I told you at the engagement party, I always called my granddaughter Taylor my favorite, until Haley took offense and claimed the title for herself. Thank you for all you’ve done for us and me. And ask John who he’d like to dance with. I can make it happen.”

We both laughed before she was tapped. Not to be outdone, she cupped my face and softly kissed my lips.

Taylor’s daughter was edged out by little Riley. I twirled her around a few times, took a couple of steps with her, then she pulled me down where she could kiss me.

Giggling, she went bouncing back to her parents with the biggest smile in the room. There was applause all around.

Taylor’s daughter had a simple message. “Thank you, for the peace and joy you’ve brought my mother and father. We’re all sorry you got shot in her home several years back. We’re all very excited about you being President. We wish all the best for you, but according to Mom, this is your destiny.”

“Your mother is a very wonderful, dear, and special person, and your father is a very dear friend. Please tell him I’ve always respected his opinion and his wonderful eye for beauty.” She was tapped, but before leaving she asked if she could kiss me. I responded with a kiss for her. The tap was from Diana.

“I see you’re enjoying yourself out here in front of everyone. Are you having a good time and are those old lips holding up? I’ll have some good use for them later on.” She smiled her wicked smile.

“I’m holding up. There is only one set of lips I’ve missed.”

With that, I dipped her backward, laying her back in my arms, and gave her a thirty-second kiss to the delight of the crowd. When I pulled her back up, I twirled her around several times, ending with a warm embrace just as the song the band was playing ended.

We stayed for one more song which was very long. There must have been twenty or thirty women who tagged in for a short dance with their President. Many ended with a kiss and a giggle.

It was all great fun and repeated for three other events.

~ * ~

At the last venue, we followed the same pattern as before. Diana and I began, followed by Billy and Kateryna, followed by Di and Griffin during the first dance. The host picked out the first woman to dance with me on the second dance, followed by a line of women for several more. The word had spread, and I was getting kissed by dozens and dozens of women at each venue.

During the last dance in the last venue, a beautiful dark-haired lady pulled me close, and whispered in my ear.

“I’m so glad we had this opportunity to finally meet in person. We’ll be seeing a great deal of each other in the days to come. I’m so very happy for you.”

“Well, thank you.”

I searched my mind for who this lovely lady could be, but came up empty.

“I’m sorry, do I know you or know of you? I’ve met so many people recently and tonight. Do we know one another?”

“No, but I’ve known you for a very, very long time. You and I have a lot of work to get done, together. Our futures have been intertwined for quite some time now. Together, we will be able to accomplish a great deal, now that you are the President, but you’re not done yet. You and I will come to know one another intimately.

“We’ll be like family, you and I. There are great things that await you and I hope to be a big part of those things.” She pushed her head back and smiled.

Immediately, I felt a sense of tranquility overtake me as I stared into the eyes of this beautiful dark-haired lady. For an instant, I saw my lovely wife Linda on her face. It was as if I were mesmerized by her presence. All within a matter of seconds,

I felt as if I were outside my body, enjoying the aura that surrounded her, and her smile.

Her smile was comforting and inviting.

Then she pulled me forward once again and kissed me.

While kissing me, she bit my lower lip.

A shock went through my entire body, and for an instant, I saw her and me walking hand-in-hand together in a park alone. I dropped my arms, still in her trance as she smiled and left the floor.

Immediately, I silently talked with Kim.

Kim. Kim, are you there?

Yes, Bill. What is it? Too many kisses for those old lips?

One I want to talk about. Was the woman I was supposed to watch out for a dark-haired beauty?

Yes! Bill, block your mind, let no one in it, and tell Griffin. I’ll alert him as well. He should be able to protect you from her.

She kissed me and bit my lower lip. I felt a great current and had a vision of her and me alone in a park or something like it. What the hell is going on?

She’s an alien from another planet. We must tell Alpha. He has forbidden her from coming to Earth. Obviously, it didn’t matter to her. Can you tell if she is still there?

No. She’s disappeared into the crowd. I think I’m alright. She said she just wanted to meet me, but there was something about us being together later. Let’s talk about this on the way home. I’ll alert Griffin, he can recall my memories and look for her after he’s seen her face. Thanks for the heads-up. We’ve got a couple more activities here before we leave for home. I’ll see you then.

Bill. You silly boy. You’re going to the White House tonight. That’s your home, now.

Oh yeah. I’ll meet you here in forty-five minutes and we can take you and Di with us. Bill out.

~ * ~

I was familiar with the set-up in the residence portion of the White House after visiting Emily there many times. Diana and Kim went to change into something more comfortable. Di went to bed. I unbuttoned my shirt and took my jacket and shoes off. When they came back into the living area, they both had serious looks covering their faces. They’d obviously been talking. Together we talked about my memory of what had happened, and my vision of her and me alone.

“Kim, you said she was an alien, was that her real form? Should I be worried about the bite?”

“I don’t know and yes. In my vision, she had complete control over you. You were in a trance with your eyes staring straight ahead. Then she made love to you. It could be she was breeding or otherwise hoping to enhance her hold on you. Diana?”

“Well, that’s bloody terrific. Kim, you don’t know her objective right now?”

“No. That’s something we need to talk with Alpha about. I’m sure he can pull up a file on her and would know what her plans might be, based on where she comes from. The way they travel, blip they’re here, and blip they’re gone, I don’t have any idea how Alpha would prevent anyone from visiting us, or worse.

“Let me see your lip.” She examined my lip carefully. “I’d never know it unless you told me like you did. I’m sure she or it could get DNA from any contact inside the mouth. Let’s have Griffin check for anything she might have inserted under your skin. He’s downstairs, I’ll call him up.”

Griffin arrived with a strong light and using both sets of eyes, examined my lip, inside and out.

“I see nothing visually. From your description, I believe she was, as she said, just making contact. I have alerted Mark and I am sure he has alerted Alpha. I also sent him your memory. I can bring him online, if you would like.”

“Do that, please. I think it would make us all sleep easier tonight.”

Griffin set up a video call with Mark who was sharing his essence with Alpha.

“I’ve studied the memory, and this is someone, for now, we will want to keep away from Bill. I’ll look at our safety protocols tomorrow to see if I can stop her from coming again. She is in violation of our laws by visiting you and making contact.

“Yes, that is her natural form, but beneath her clothing and beneath her skin, there are slight differences. I suspect the bite was just something to cause the worrying you’re now experiencing. They or she would have no need for DNA or anything else from Bill.” He chuckled.

“What powers might she possess that could make me follow her instructions?”

“Like us on Sigma, she is very old. Like your children, she has special gifts, one being an advanced form of subliminal suggestions, and what they call casting your mood.

“She can also read minds like your children will be able to do, but with greater range and sensitivity. We have medicine that can help. I’d suggest your entire family be inoculated.”

“So, since there’s really no immediate danger, we can go over all this and other things tomorrow. Thank you, Alpha for being so quick to respond. Bill out.”

Kim wanted to give me a massage and press my temples, but Diana had other plans. Griffin said good night and Kim soon followed him out. Diana wanted more than a kiss from the new President. Let’s just say it was difficult to get any sleep the first night in the White House.

~ * ~

Bright and early the next morning, I got ready and made my way down to the Oval Office. Griffin met me there, ready for work. There were several personnel matters needing immediate attention, most were temporary assignments because we didn’t have time to plan a transition. Everything happened so fast.

The female android setting outside the Oval had a detailed list of questions to determine everything from how I liked my eggs, to break times and refreshments. We went over the rules she followed in the same position as Emily. I grew bored and told her to use everything else she needed, based on Emily. What could go wrong with that?

Interviews were scheduled for key positions in the cabinet and administration. Chief of Staff was what I considered the most important, having dealt with it while Emily was President. Griffin had files on all people in every position posted to my implant. He had communicated with Emily for recommendations and qualities she thought were important.

I had a wild idea, so I got Emily and Carson on a video call. Griffin was in the Oval with me.

“Hey, how are you two beauties doing this morning? Are you ready for a little strategy session?”

Both said sure. Carson looked like she had just gone to bed. I’m sure the Sisters all had a good time after the formal celebrations last night ended.

“Okay, I’m trying to put together our administration, and although the people I’m seeing all look very well qualified, I’m not getting a spark out of anyone on day one. What would you think of making the Neuro Linda my Chief of Staff, and putting Carson over all intel agencies?”

Carson was very quick to respond.

“Have you lost your mind? I have no interest in that position or any position actually. I’m dealing with heads-of-state all day long on the Fast Start program in charge of the Eastern Hemisphere. I haven’t been a spy for almost twenty years. What’s gotten into that grey head of yours?”

“Actually, you’re right. You may be better as the Secretary of State. Emily, what do you think?”

Carson responded immediately. “Did you go deaf again? I thought…” Emily interrupted Carson.

“I think Secretary of State would be excellent for Carson. She’ll be able to take the burden off you, yet keep you positioned for things to come from Alpha.”

“Don’t help me out here Madam President. The two of you have gone nuts…” I interrupted her.

“For the good of your country, as the patriot that I know you are, your President is calling you to serve. Transition out with you and Linda coming here to join me in the White House.

“Can I count on you?”

“Bill. I really don’t think I’d be very good at being the Secretary of State. I may drag you down.” Emily responded,

“Yeah, Bill. Like in China, perhaps the greatest single diplomatic success ever recorded. She might not have anything left.

“Oh wait. Didn’t she just lose six or seven years and gain twenty points on her IQ? I don’t know Bill. She might have lost her edge. Seeing her last night though, she sure could wow every male she came into contact with.” I followed Emily.

“Your President is calling you to serve. Don’t go home. Stay here in D.C. and help us put this all together. You’d really be helping me out, Carsie.”

“Bill. Really, you can do better. There are others who are better qualified in any number of areas. Why not pick one of them?”

“That’s your first assignment. You fill in your organization the way you want it. I don’t even want veto power over anyone you might hire. Just think of the team you could assemble, just like the Sisters.”

Carson dropped her eyes and shook her head. This was my game of whoever spoke first, lost. I winked at Emily and we waited. Carson looked all around her room, up and down, with a perplexed look on her face. We waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, she agreed. I thanked her and asked how soon she could get here.

“Give me a couple of hours. Griffin, can you take care of Linda? I’d suggest Anika take my position and whichever Neuro she’s working with to replace Linda. Bill, are you sure about this? Please reconsider.”

“Nope. This solves many problems or rather creates many opportunities for me. I’m absolutely sure the team you’ll assemble will be the best available. Hell, get your team set up and I may give you another assignment. We’re going to need a similar position for all the Sigma’s we’re going to be introduced to, but you may have to fight Emily for that.” Emily was now smiling broadly and offered.

“Let’s take it one day at a time. Welcome Carson, I think you’ll be tremendously successful and make your President proud, just like you did me. Great idea Bill. Got any more?”

“Thank you, Carson. Now, you’re a member of the administration, I want to run another idea by you. Emily, Carson, what would you think of Taylor as the Attorney General? With a Chief of Staff, Secretary of State, and Attorney General, I could relax and take my time with the rest of the appointments. Emily, your thoughts?”

“I think that’s a great idea as well. My AG was fine, but there was never a chemistry there. With Carson, Linda, Griffin, and Taylor, you’re right, that team would allow you to be selective and change directions wherever you wanted without impacting your getting up-to-speed. I like it.”

“Carson. Any comments?”

“Yeah, but my head’s still spinning. I think she’d be great. Plus, she knows about memory access, so that’s a plus too. Bill. Do you really want me to do this?”

“Absolutely. I feel very good about my first selections as President. Hold on. I’ll tap Taylor in.”

“Good morning, Mr. President. Oh, and Emily, Griffin, and Carson, what’s up?”

Carson tried to warn her. “Are you sitting down Taylor? You might want to. I needed to.”

“Carson’s being overly dramatic. She’s agreed to be our Secretary of State. I hope I’m talking to this country’s next Attorney General. What’d you say?”

“Carson’s right. I need to take a seat. Bill, I know you. We wouldn’t be talking unless you’re serious. Are you sure you’d like me to join your team as the AG?”

“I can’t think of anyone who could do a better job. Besides, you’re getting younger each month.” I chuckled. She smiled a weak smile. “Like Carson, I’d want you to take control and do all the hiring and any restructuring you might think is needed. Just have a conversation first and you’d have complete control. I’d really like to have you on the team. Your President is calling you to serve.” I smiled.

“When you put it like that, I’d love to be your Attorney General. When should I start?”

“I’m free at 3:00 today. Why don’t you and John come in then. We’ll get going today. You know considerably more about that area than I do. I consider this a favor. Besides, you know some of the Supremes, memory access, and I’m going to need someone I can trust and lean on for changes that I expect to come about. So, you’re in, right?”

“I’ll see you at 3:00 Mr. President, and thank you. To even be considered is a great honor. I’ll see you this afternoon.”

We worked for the remainder of the morning on setting up a new administration. Griffin was very helpful, given his time as VP for both Emily and the last President. We worked out a process where he would tap people and androids he trusted and bring recommendations. We’d interview them and go from there.

I should have been concerned, this was more Griffin’s administration than mine, but it’s a pattern I’d followed in my earlier life. Trust people (or androids in this case) and they rarely let you down. It gives them skin in the game and a sense of ownership that can’t be taught or bought. It’s all good.

Diana visited briefly before she went to a briefing on her role as first lady. After she left and before Taylor arrived, I had a silent conversation with Alpha. I began,

Hey, thanks for your help last night, it did bring us all some relief. What can you tell me about this person and what she may want?

Her people have squandered many of their natural resources, so they’re always on the lookout for a planet where they can obtain more. That’s why we blocked them from contacting anyone on Earth. They want your natural resources and will do almost anything to get them. You’ll be visited by several in the same position. She’s likely to be the most attractive. I could almost see the smile on his face.

How do you prohibit someone from another planet from visiting us?

As I’ve told you and your former President, advanced civilizations are in a position where they help because they can. Once we made it known we were working with Earth, it required others to come through us to get to you. She violated our agreement. I’m sure this was not the first time either. You personally are an interesting story. That draws curious people to you. When you add what you’ve done in such a short time, let’s just say it raises your profile. Your work with Griffin is particularly unique. All civilizations that are ‘advanced’, have utilized androids even beyond what you’ve done. You’ve seen it here on Sigma. Your work on the synthetic brain is unique for your stage of development. It’s something else that draws them to you.

So, it’s an honor system? Can you prevent them from coming and going?

Yes, it is an honor system by and large, but there are consequences for violating the system. I’ve already alerted her superiors and they have told me it would not happen again. I don’t doubt it will, but we have processes to follow before more severe actions are taken. You have developed some ability to block those from wanting access to your brain. We have a pill that will help with that. I’ll get it to you, and I suggest your entire team of humans take it. Androids also have some defenses we can strengthen. Mark will work with Griffin to upgrade their abilities.

So, as the new President, she wants to get her foot in the door with me, is that right?

It’s a little more complicated than that, but for now, that’s all it should be. If she can get control of your mind, which would be extremely difficult to do, she could achieve many goals, not the least of which would be to ‘negotiate’ trade deals to strip your resources away. We won’t let that happen… Now, I’d like to change topics. I’d like to know what your plans are for your Presidency.

Okay, I’ll bite. What are my goals for this Presidency? Between you and Kim, I figured you already had determined what I was going to do, when, and how. I don’t have a real problem with that, I’d just like to think I may have some small amount of control over it. So far, everything has resulted in advancing the overall good for all people. What do you want to talk about?

Please know I’m smiling at your answer, and also know your history suggests you achieve based on what you want to achieve. You have never been a puppet to anyone, other than fate herself.

Well, what does she have in mind for me now?

The platform you ran on should be a good starting point. As I recall, there were three main goals under a banner of: the best days are ahead of us. The first was the Space Program. The second was Fast Start. It’s the third I’m most interested in. You were very vague with it, but you’re out to change Earth, building on the first two. So, please share where you see Earth going.

Okay. I believe Emily and I are following your civilization’s practice of ‘conditioning’ the populous, to strive for the higher good of each and all. When we supplement above-ground farming with ocean farming, food should never be a problem for anyone to acquire. So, with food taken care of, shelter is not a problem in the U.S., but it is in some parts of the world. We have to change that. We have to replicate the American work ethic and freedoms around the world.

I paused briefly to further gather my thoughts.

Look, I’m an entrepreneur at heart. I believe in innovation in all its many forms. I just happen to be in the technology field, but there are transferable traits shared among all fields of endeavor. I want there to be a universal baseline for all humans, but it can’t be given. It must be earned. Brainwashing children is one way, but as you’ve said, it takes generations to accomplish. I’m looking for an interim step to bridge the gap. I realize it will be anything but perfect, but I plan to try to put all that’s happening together into a plan to move that agenda of a universal baseline forward.

I didn’t expect that, but I’m not surprised. You were always a conservative in your prior life. You sound like the ultimate liberal now. What’s happened?

Did you miss the part about having to earn it? We’ll begin the brainwashing within the next year or so. I don’t know how just yet, but that’s never stopped me before. Something will come up from my lady friend: fate. So, I see Emily and me setting the path to be followed. She’ll want to go fast, and she’ll question my motives and resolve. That’s where the liberal and conservative parts will clash. I’m more worried about the bridge. Right now, I’d say it has to reside in governance and innovation from the first two programs. That’s as far as I’ve gotten right now.

I paused again before continuing.

You’re familiar with the United Nations organization. For the last two centuries, it’s been a great waste of time, money, and resources. Emily wanted to re-charter it before we moved China forward. Then she dropped it. Bigger fish to fry and political landmines to avoid. I’m trying to figure out if there is a way to keep the global approach of our two main programs, while moving governance slowly toward the same ends, global governance. You and I have talked about this before, on our fishing trip perhaps. I’d like to make global governance an achievable goal. I’m just not sure right now how to do it.

We need to expose you to advanced civilizations’ governance. You need a model to work toward. Emily was a very effective President, but she could not have pulled off what she or you wanted at that time. You just might be able to do it.

Think about this. We have three global organizations right now, but no one realizes it except for a very few of us. The Space Program, Cricket, and the Fast Start program, all operate above and across individual nations. What if we had a fourth that we advertised as a ‘trade’ organization, then morphed it into a governance organization? The Chinese were on the right path, they just had the wrong timeframe and the wrong governance model. Not to mention, their methods sucked. I waited for a response.

I can see where you’re headed with this. The United Nations would have been a good name, but I agree, it’s a total waste. You should NOT try to revive it.

Believe me, my friend, I have no intentions of reviving it. As a matter of fact, I’m going to bring it down, building and all. The Chinese called their idea, the New World Order. Sounds a little ominous, but I’ve always thought their concept had merit. Essentially, it’s a bridge. Their problem was it treated everyone the same and killed the non-conformist. Without an enemy, they were doomed. I’m thinking with all that’s good coming down the line, we don’t need an enemy. We can coalesce around progress and a better life for all. Those will be our over-arching themes.

So, the Space Program and Fast Start are a means to an end?

That’s what I’m thinking right now. It’s simplistic, and I’m open to suggestions, and I’m always waiting for fate to change my direction. I just hope she does it this time without the bullets and knives.

Our conversation was interrupted by my assistant announcing that Taylor and John were waiting. Alpha ended with I’ve got work to do and thanked me for my thoughts. I thanked him for all his help, today and tomorrow. It was a good talk. I went to the door to greet my guests.

“Taylor and John, two of my favorite people. What a lovely necklace. John, were you surprised?”

“Shocked would be a more accurate description. Pleased, thankful, honored, but mostly shocked.”

“That’s what I’ve always liked about this guy, he always tells you what he’s thinking. Come in and let’s have a seat on the sofas.”

I embraced Taylor as she passed. She honestly looked a little shell-shocked.

“I’m excited about you getting started. Do you have any initial thoughts or ideas on anything?”

“My head’s been spinning to tell you the truth. I’ve taken the liberty to call a couple of friends for input. They were thrilled for me but gave me nothing. I think they were caught as flat-footed as I was. The question, Mr. President, is what do you want to get done?”

“It’s an area I have little knowledge of. A good friend always took care of all my needs, so I figured what the heck, let her run it and make it a better, stronger organization.

“That’s your mandate: better and stronger.”

“Are you open to some changes?”

“Absolutely! Always! I’ve never liked bureaucracy and I hate the thought of inefficiencies where justice is involved. The only thing I ask is don’t surprise me. I’m easy to convince when the homework has been done, and I have no doubt you’ll always be prepared. I’m excited about having you on the team.”

“She’s excited too. She’s been on the phone since your call non-stop. I haven’t seen her this excited since we came here for your after-death memories. You made a terrific choice, Mr. President.”

“Mr. President sounds weird, doesn’t it? Madam AG, now that’s got a nice ring to it. From what I understand, it’s a big organization, but I know you can handle it.”

“Mr. President…” I interrupted her with my hand. “Bill, please.” She didn’t oblige.

“Mr. President, I’ve got some ideas I’m still flushing out. On the title, I believe you told Emily, the title would always be used inside this building. I think you’ve earned that respect.” She smiled.

“Thank you, I understand and yes, I said the same thing. What do you need from me? You already have a blank check to do whatever you want. So, how can I help you? Do you need consultants, or assistants, or anything? Later we can talk about upgrading a neuro for your use. Anything else?”

“I’ve got everything I need for now. Thank you, again for thinking of me. This is a dream come true.”

“Knowing you’re happy and excited gives me great confidence this area is well taken care of. Thank you both. I must have a hundred phone calls to return, so I’ll talk with you whenever you’re ready.”

John and I shook hands, and reluctantly Taylor embraced me and whispered.

“Thank you. I won’t let you down.”

They both left smiling. It felt good.

The hundred was close. I did my best to return each one and with Griffin’s help supplying summaries, I was able to add a touch of personal reflection. It surprised some and was greatly appreciated by all. Early in the evening, Diana brought Billy, Kateryna, and Di for an inspection of the Oval Office. Di was the first to speak.

“Needs some pictures. Needs a woman’s touch on the decorating side, don’t you think Mom?”

Billy quickly responded. “Leave him alone. This is day one. We’re proud of you Dad. I can’t believe it, even though everyone told us to prepare for it. Guess this will slow your visits to the lab down. This is great.”

I asked the ladies to take care of the decorating and told them to include Kim.

The day ended with me signing a couple of dozen papers slid in front of me. Griffin would nod, and I’d sign. At seven o’clock, my android assistant informed me that dinner was now being served in the dining room. As I walked in, everyone rose and applauded. I smiled and thanked them.

The entire family was there, except one, Kim. I quietly inquired about Kim with Diana.

“We’ll talk later” was her answer. I said okay. The prime rib and lobster were fantastic, the conversation was joyous, and the first day was in the books.

Before going to bed, I asked Diana about Kim.

“She moved in with us after being so far away in Japan and missing you. She feels much better since, but was reluctant to move into the White House with us. She’ll live in our house on a trial basis.”

“And she’s okay with this arrangement?”

“She said the last several months have been wonderful, but thought it might cause problems if she were actually living with us here. She still has great feelings for you and hopes she can adjust to the contact she’ll have after everything settles down.”

“I enjoyed always having the two of you around. This was yours and her arrangement, so if you’re fine, I’m fine.”

She smiled. I wasn’t ready to let it drop. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head.

“Hey. Alpha wanted to know what I’d like to accomplish as President. I told him I’d like to do away with the United Nations and form a new global organization, like China was attempting to do when we first met. I was thinking of making Kim an Advisor to the President and having her scope it out for me. What do you think?”

She began jumping up and down in her happy dance. Very inappropriate for the White House.

Then she ran to me and smothered me with kisses.

“Bill. You have no idea how happy this would make Kim and me. She was depressed at not accompanying us and worried you’d become so busy and important, she’d rarely get a chance to see or be close to you. This would keep her involved and near to both of us. Of course, I’d want to participate.”

“Of course. Shall we give her a call?”

We may have gotten her out of bed. It was late, but she was happy to see and hear from us.

“I’ve just consulted with my beautiful First Lady on an idea. She thought my idea of making you an Advisor to the President was a good one, so we’re here to sell you on it.”

“What? You want me to be an Advisor? Oh, Bill, that would be wonderful.

“Just one little question, what would I be advising you on?”

“I’d like to give you a secret mission where your intellect and spy skills would come into play. I want to scrap the UN and create a global trade organization like the Chinese were attempting to do back in 2129.

“Do you remember the New World Order? Something like an umbrella organization over all the nations of the world. I think it will give us leverage, if we were ever to need it. Obviously, there’s a lot more, but that’s the headline.

“What do you say? I’d like to see that beautiful, muscular lady I love so much here, with an office in the White House. Diana even said, she wouldn’t be jealous. Are you in?”

“Of course, I’m in. I’ve seen this but didn’t know what it was. We’ll need it when Alpha opens up Earth for visitors. I’d be delighted to help you set it up. It might even require some sleepovers if Diana doesn’t mind.” Diana responded,

“I’d be disappointed if it didn’t. I’m very excited about this and told Bill I’d even help. Maybe my title would open a door or two to help us get going.”

“Great! Talk with Griffin tomorrow and get set up. With Carson, you, and Diana, all at the White House at once, it’s going to be tough for me to keep my mind on business.” Everyone laughed.

“Thank you, Bill. I won’t let you down. I’ll make this a great decision on your part. Thank you, so very much.”

“I’ve even discussed it with Alpha. I’m sure he will be pleased you’re heading it up. Now, get some sleep and let me know when you get settled in here. Bill out.”

This had been a very good day.

~ * ~

Having addressed the most important positions of my new administration, I wanted to followup on the investigation into the explosion. I asked my assistant to have someone who was investigating the case to give me a call. It was mid-morning when I received the call.

“Mr. President, my name is Detective Adam Century.

“I am the lead detective on the explosion in the space center labs. I was told to call you, sir.”

“Thank you, Mr. Century. I was curious about how the investigation was coming and what you might have uncovered. As you are aware, my two children were injured, so I’m interested in finding out why it happened.”

“Yes, sir. As you know, the perpetrator was killed by the explosion. We have tracked down several leads and have concluded he was acting alone. He didn’t have a record of any kind and we’ve interviewed about a dozen people who knew him. He was a scientist, unmarried, with very few close friends. It appears he was upset because the prior President was leaving and just went off the rails, sir.”

“Does it appear there was anyone else involved?”

“No, sir. He had some previous ties to some military providers, but that wouldn’t have been uncommon here in D.C., particularly in his line of work. We haven’t closed the case yet, but right now we’re just doing our normal investigation. If you’d like, I’d be more than happy to alert you if we find anything else, sir.”

“That’d be greatly appreciated Detective, greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.”

It appeared our plan was working. No one had made a connection worth pursuing.

We knew of many who had left town and/or changed occupations, and having them tagged in Cricket; we could track them at will. With the kids fully recovered, I decided to let it go.
