Introduction
My name is Bill DeFoor and I am the author of the Intervention Series and the 2129 Series. Both Series deal with how computers, androids, and technology in general, will impact every aspect of our lives in the mid-twenty-second century.
What I believe: the world one hundred years from now will be our best days ever and they will only get better based on our acceptance and integrated use of technology.
What I don’t believe: the dystopian environments predicted by so many writers and filmmakers, because I believe in the American people.
There will always be swings in where we as Americans stand on issues and politics, but the overwhelming majority will always find themselves centered, and they will always stand tall when threatened or given a chance to respond when our values are threatened. America and her people are good. All Americans, not just those of a single belief or political persuasion, share a bond of fairness and have an adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit. It’s who we are.
Therefore, the world of discoveries and adventures presented in the Intervention Series is a reflection of those beliefs, as was the 2129 Series which preceded it.
Not surprisingly, I also believe within the next century, alien visitations will occur and they will help us achieve even greater things for all mankind. I believe they’ve been here before, but until we can take full advantage of our technology, cool the politics of destruction, and eliminate the ability to destroy mankind, they’re waiting in the clouds.
This is who I am.

~ * ~
In 2017 our hero (Bill Bailey) dies in an auto accident. He’s cryogenically frozen until awakened in 2129. These are the two important dates of the 2129 Series.
Bill’s values, personality, biases, and memories are from 2017. His adventures and our storylines take place in 2129 and for the following twenty years. These adventures and discoveries are covered in the books of the 2129 Series. They are books about relationships and discoveries as told from the perspective of our hero.
The relationships are between Bill, the android Griffin, and the many people he interacts with pursuing his adventures. Of special interest are their adventures with beautiful lady spies, in gender-reversed roles, known as the Band of Sisters.
The discoveries center around Bill and Griffin sharing the ability to communicate telepathically, and their ability to telepathically read memories of those they come into contact with. Other discoveries deal with the continued advancement of androids.
These android advancements, and the birth of Bill’s two gifted children enable aliens to visit with Bill and further the discoveries he and Griffin participate in.
The 2129 Series sets the stage for the Intervention Series.
Everything that happens contributes to being ready to adventure out, helping distant planets and civilizations, in the same manner, Bill and Griffin were given help from Bill’s two alien mentors, thus the name: Intervention Series.
Spoiler Alert: I’ll be covering some of what happened between 2129 and 2149. I’ll try to make it general enough to not spoil your reading enjoyment of the previous Series, but it is important to set the stage for this Series. It will provide what you need to know to make Interventions believable.
Making the storylines interesting, fun to read, and believable are my main goals.
Chapter 1 – My Background
(Establishing my credibility to write on these topics)
In writing the Series, I tried to make the environment in 2129 and beyond as real and believable as possible.
I stayed away from the dystopian environments predicted in many other science fiction books and movies. There are no ominously-dark always-raining skies, no millions of scary people clogging each street where it’s always raining or containing war-ravaged buildings. No flying cars are buzzing around everywhere in the sky. As I envision America in 2129 and 2149, there are not twenty or thirty billion people living on top of one another either.
The everyday living environment was modeled, by taking into consideration, the changes occurring over the past one-hundred-twelve years (from 1905 till 2017), since the story in the 2129 Series begins one-hundred-twelve years into the future from Bill’s death in 2017.
I looked backward to project forward.
I found living conditions, had changed very little in the time between 1905 and 2017. The actual living environment was very much the same. So, I incorporated refinements to travel, entertainment, and communications to predict the living environment in the future. In 1905, we lived in apartments and homes and went about our lives very much the same as when we did in 2017.
What we will do in 2129 is what’s different, particularly given the technological advances we will enjoy, even though the environment will be very similar. Here’s a little history lesson from an old programmer.
My I/T background – COMPUTERS
I started in I/T in 1968 when it was known as IBM because it dominated the industry. The first machine I worked on as an operator was an IBM 360/30. It had 32k of internal storage (power).
Today, I can’t think of any piece of equipment or any device that isn’t significantly more powerful. Cell phones, watches, well everything needing some form of computing power is much more powerful than the corporate machine I began my career on.
The first computer itself was also totally different from the computers of today. For example, data storage in the 1960s consisted of tall, stand-alone magnetic tape drives and Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD). Many reading the books of the Series, will never have seen a magnetic tape drive so dominate in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Dominate then, never to be seen now, this is the story of technology.
DASD resembled a series of thick, orange, vinyl records, stacked with space in between each one where a mechanical finger would shoot in and out between the fast-spinning “records” to extract small portions of data. Many reading this, may not even know what a vinyl record is.
In 1968, around 7 megs of data could be stored on a DASD device. Each was a self-contained piece of equipment that sat on the floor in a three-foot by three-foot by four-foot-high space with a hinged glass top, allowing you to observe and change the fast-spinning discs.
Along with the computers and tape drives, DASD was a major corporate expense in 1968. Today, you can buy a thumb drive containing twenty terabytes of data storage for about twenty dollars.
That’s how far storage technology has progressed.
During the late 1980s, I was with a large Pharma company that dedicated thousands of square feet of space to their state-of-the-art computer room. We had a celebration when we had one gigabyte of DASD. We thought we had really arrived. A million megabytes (one thousand gigabytes) comprise one terabyte of data. The size and capacity of storage devices are perfect examples of the acceleration I refer to. It’s been amazing and shows no sign of ending anytime soon.
Today, server farms have replaced computer rooms, and the power, speed, and storage capacities are virtually unlimited, and for the most part, could fit in a large closet.
SOFTWARE & SYSTEMS
When I began my programming career in 1970, the language I used to create programs was BAL (Basic Assembler Language). It was comprised of about three dozen main instructions on a single green card that gave a programmer all they needed to know about how to create applications. When folded in its native state, the green card was about 4” x 8 ½”.
We dealt in bits, bytes, and words. We were talking directly to the machine in its most basic language. Our instructions (code) were keypunched into cards and then read into storage by card readers.
I wonder what happened to all the card readers and keypunch machines of the past? At the time, we thought they were incredible machines.
Networking would not be invented for another decade and the internet was a couple of decades away. Are you getting the picture?
Data, in most cases, were input from cards and were stored and accessed in flat files, like columns and rows of a spreadsheet. The first commercial database was invented by IBM for manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOM). The first commercial database management system (DBMS) was appropriately called BOMP for Bill of Material Processor.
Even today, everyone in our field loves our acronyms.
The first screens were primarily invented to take the place of keypunch machines before accessing and displaying data as applications. Green screens as they were known, took up a lot of real estate on desks and tables for a couple of decades. Now, color flat screens are only a couple of inches thick and can be subdivided for multiple views of multiple applications.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was introduced in the 1980s. Algorithms can be thought of as an advanced form of AI. Both are a result of the complex layering of decision tree logic that can only be supported by the powerful resources of today.
I wonder what the next generation will be called.
Personal computing arrived in the late 1980s and has refined itself from the original lug-around to the hand-held device of today.
The cellphone was a phone during the 1990s when it began its evolution. Now, it’s impossible to think of them without photography capabilities and integrated apps. Integrated apps make the cell phones of today much more powerful than any commercial computer that existed in 1968.
The under-the-skin implanted receiver/transmitter talked about in the books, isn’t widely in use today, although it does exist.
The point of this brief Memory Recall example is this: in equipment, coding languages, applications, and presentation; I/T has accelerated in discoveries and development, while other environmental elements have merely grown over the last fifty years or more.
What is currently being done by social media giants (platforms) mining and correlating data is yet another, perhaps more frightening example of accelerated growth in the technological arena. Google was formed in 1998. Now it controls a large portion of technology that didn’t even exist two decades ago. Facebook came along in 2004, a date that will live forever in infamy…
Those of us in the industry thought IBM made the right decision to let Microsoft spin off in 1975. At the time, we thought it was a worthless promise, but what did we know? The rest is history.
So, when you read the 2129 Series, think about how close we are today to the 2129 environment as it is explained. It’s not that great a leap forward.
For example, you can ask Alexa to control your heating/cooling systems, control your lights, or find a favorite program on your streaming big-screen TV. You can speak into your cellphone and google nearly any question you might think of. And today, driverless cars are in final testing.
SUMMARY
I think it’s important for you to understand my background. It gives the Series and its technical discoveries credibility. I hope you can agree; it’s not a great leap of faith to envision my predicted environment of 2129 and move forward to 2149.
If you’ve read the 2129 Series, I hope you feel that I’ve brought you along gently, to the point of believing we’ll have the communication and travel capabilities described in the Intervention Series. Both are essential elements of each intervention.
My point: technology will continue to advance much more rapidly than our normal living conditions and interactions. Other than the adventures, I don’t believe there’s much fiction in the science-fiction technology of the 2129 Series. The capabilities and adventures of the Interventions Series are more about storytelling.
Just for a moment, if the world I describe in 2149 existed as I describe, don’t you believe we, the human race, would venture out to assist other planets?
Just a little something for you to consider.
Chapter 2 – Space Travel
(Let your mind wander a bit with me on this topic)
Space travel is one of those wonderful concepts we can engage in while writing Science Fiction. It’s essential to the storylines of both Series and a topic I find extremely interesting.
I believe there are two primary factors regarding how realistic my concepts are when describing my theories on space travel. They impact the characters and storyline of each book.
The first is aging or more accurately, how do you keep the age of the traveler in sync with those they leave behind?
I get the methods of “sleep” others predict a space traveler might have to endure while traveling to and from a destination. Many by today’s measurements are hundreds and thousands of lightyears away. I could believe in some form of technology-assisted hibernation, but that’s not the problem for me. But can you imagine leaving those you know and love behind for decades (of hibernation time) to get to a distant planet? You may have aged a day or a week or a month, while those left behind have all aged and passed.
Writing about Bill Bailey going from 2017 to 2129, I try to explain how that might feel to be the traveler. I wonder how many of us could adapt to a totally new environment when awakened. And, who knows what might have been discovered during the time we were asleep? Adjustments would be a major concern.
The second factor is propulsion. How would you ever store enough fuel to carry a payload to another universe and return?
What if either or both factors are prohibitive?
Perhaps we’re destined to be restricted to our own solar system. There’d be no fun in writing or reading books that contain space travel if that were the case. Besides, do you really believe we are the only human race in all of existence?
If you do, I’ve lost you from hello.
~ * ~
So, when I look at space travel, the first thing I consider is Einstein’s theory of bending time and space like a piece of paper.
This theory suggested; that a starting point and a destination could be thought of as being on a piece of paper representing time and space. That piece of paper could be thought of as a plane or another dimension. Einstein suggests, that we could bend the paper aligning the destination over the starting point directly in line and above it.
I use that as a jumping-off point. Taken to a logical conclusion (to me anyway), that image sets up a vision of a wormhole. A shortcut between two remote points in space. In Einstein’s example, one is somehow placed directly over the other.
The wormhole concept has been popular for some time in the science fiction community. It facilitates travel and takes care of the aging issue with a single idea. It’s the ideal shortcut between two distant points.
However, the problem with a wormhole for our level of understanding is: who, or how, do you make one?
Obviously, I enjoy watching and reading about such ideas and there have been several. I like the Stargate movies and TV programs in particular and in thinking about it, it’s provided a couple of theories to pursue in writing my Series.
In case you’ve never heard of Stargate, it suggests the existence of a starting stargate mechanism (two twelve-to-fifteen-foot circles of stone, one within the other, with a dozen or so symbols equally spaced around both) and a destination stargate mechanism. The symbols on one of the stargates rotate to identify the location or address of the destination stargate. It turns multiple times until the destination is properly identified.
When they are aligned with a valid destination, people and objects can be transported through a membrane arriving immediately at the destination. Pretty cool, right? The issue with aging doesn’t apply to stargates because it takes no time to transport yourself from your starting point to your destination.
So, I adopted the concept, in part. The part of movement between points with no aging problem associated with it. So far, so good.
~ * ~
A major constraint of the stargate process is, that there has to be a mechanism at both starting and destination points. Not very convenient for traveling since in the Stargate series, there was only one or two per planet. How would you get to remote destinations on each planet once you’ve arrived? I’ve never seen a rent-a-car or airplane in any of the episodes. I’d want to be able to travel to an unlimited number of destinations on an unlimited number of planets.
It would be a major limiting factor, not to mention having to explain who made the stargates. There would have to be some divine entity and even then, they would have an unreasonable time creating one for every destination we’d want to visit. So, I went to work on that, and here’s how I came up with what I did.
We live in a three-dimensional world. To define two points in space requires an “X” horizontal axis, a “Y” vertical axis, and a “Z” depth axis. I think even Einstein had to cheat a little to put his paper-bending theory forward.
On a single piece of paper, he defined two points by their X and Y axis, where the paper represented his Z axis. It occurred to me, that by aligning and bending the paper, he was creating a fourth dimension. I decided to call it: location. Not very original, but it’s easy to understand its meaning.
Everyone can envision a three-dimensional model of space where two points are located representing a starting point and a destination. If I created a fourth dimension, like Einstein’s sheet of paper, that plane connecting the two points I’d call my fourth dimension. In effect, it would be his sheet of paper.
Once I had the fourth dimension named, I thought about the distance between the two points on Einstein’s folded paper (now my fourth dimension). Again, not being very creative with names, I called it time, representing the time it would take to get between the two locations on the bent piece of paper.
Another way to look at it might be to consider the distance between the two points, in my plane in terms, of the time to get from one to the other, given whatever form of travel you might use.
~ * ~
My version of the stargate concept just became a discovery of two additional dimensions: location and time. The location of the destination would be needed to pinpoint a spot in outer space or another planet. The time represents how fast we wanted to reach our destination, given the distance between the two points and the method of transportation. You’ll recognize using both new dimensions for travel in both Series.
My aging problem had been solved. It also solved many of the problems associated with having aliens as mentors. They needed to have a way to get from their home to us quickly, that’s the way mentors work. Even if they only have three fingers and are seven feet tall, they’re very hands-on.
I also solved the dilemma of the stargate concerning who and where the stargates were created. By having the additional dimension, I could go anywhere. All I needed was a vehicle or vessel, a spaceship to penetrate the new dimensions I had just created, and I could end up where I wanted to be in the shortest period possible.
Unlike with the stargate where people walked through a membrane, I needed to create a spacecraft and address transit and my propulsion concerns which had been somewhat mitigated with the new dimensions.
Since I was creating a couple of new dimensions, I wanted something a little more eloquent to fuel my fleet.
I’m fed up with the arguments about fossil fuels and renewables, so I created my own source: liquid energy. Just to make it fun, I decided it didn’t exist on Earth, but there was some on Mars and certainly, our friends from outer space had to have access to it. After all, they had been traveling through space for eons.
Coming up with liquid energy was fun, but I didn’t want it to be used in the firing of an engine. Again, I wanted something more exotic. So, I came up with the concept of like magnetic forces repelling one another and theorized that the movement of liquid energy, between the hulls of a vessel, would create thrust, and considering gravity as magnetic energy, it could repel itself to hover about Earth’s gravity. All I needed to do was to create a two or three-hull spacecraft and circulate the liquid energy to produce thrust and offset gravity.
~ * ~
Then I had to test my creation against existing (science fiction) norms of traveling in space.
Warp speed(s) is the popular method of jumping great distances between destinations in space.
Can you imagine the stress on a vehicle this would create? Unknowingly, the warp speed concept might be promoting my new dimension theory, except they’re doing it by pushing the speed of their spacecraft to unimaginable speeds, instead of imagining new dimensions.
But there was another problem to consider with warp speeds. If they were only dealing with the speed of the vessel, what about all the little rocks that might come into contact with a craft as it was speeding through space, let alone a planet they may have between them and their destination?
Have you ever had a bug hit your arm while it hung outside a car window at sixty miles per hour? I guess I’m showing my age with that question. I don’t know anyone today who has their car windows down while driving at sixty-miles-per-hour today.
And what about fuel for propulsion? Anti-matter is a great concept, but containment and availability were always an issue with Mr. Scott of Star Trek fame, so I let it pass. Besides, I’ve never heard a good definition of it or how it’s created.
I’m biased, but I can visualize liquid energy, like liquid lightning. So, if I’m creating an entirely new dimension, it should be pure and clean, without rocks or other obstacles to impede our travel.
The only thing left to consider is how to penetrate my new dimensions to get from one destination to the other.
I spent time on this in the 2129 Series. It was explained by our alien mentor Alpha. With the new location and time dimensions entered into our ship, there is a laser needed to penetrate, without burning a hole needing to be repaired.
Alpha will have to explain the rest if you’re interested in more. Also addressed in the 2129 Series was how the containment of liquid energy could be used for conventional travel.
When Bill and his family visit Alpha on his planet Sigma, they find it used for mass transit. Its properties which allow it to hover make it ideal for transportation via trains and subways. Computers would instantaneously react and adjust to weight being added or reduced with passengers and cargo. This would eliminate the need for tracks and with the propulsion being supplied by liquid energy circulation, we had everything taken care of.
Well, almost everything. Inertia was going to be a problem, so our space mentor also helped us integrate a gyroscope and how to counterbalance the circulation of liquid energy to take care of inertia. It’s only needed when starting and stopping, so we had to take care of the “G” forces during both times.
The books of the Visitation series that followed, capitalize on the inventions and discoveries of the 2129 Series. If you haven’t read them, I suggest you do.
Chapter 3 – Telepathic Communications
(With a little help from an implant)
Another critical concept required to make the Intervention Series work is the ability to communicate with one another without using their voices. It might be cheating to call it telepathic communication, but it certainly makes it sound better than silently talking throughout the series.
Once again, the concept and how it came about are thoroughly explained in the 2129 Series Book #1, but because it plays such an important part in the Intervention Series, I’ll summarize it here.
When Bill Bailey is first working with the advanced android Griffin, Bill witnesses the incredible power and capabilities Griffin possesses. In 2017 Bill had severe hearing problems (he still does today, oops). So, Bill poses a question to Griffin about the level of knowledge androids have in 2129 regarding brain mapping and understanding.
Bill always thought, in his early programming days, it would be cool to think a question and have the computer respond with its incredible access to research materials. He wanted to see if the level of knowledge had advanced enough to make this happen in 2129.
Based on Griffin’s response, Bill asks him to research the Cochlear hearing system, the system that took sound waves directly into the audio nerve to improve hearing.
Again, based on Griffin’s capabilities, Griffin built a helmet with sensors to isolate where hearing and speech originated. When they got the helmet to work, Griffin was able to create a small post, replacing the helmet for Bill, to send and receive brainwaves related to speech. Thus, the implant was born.
With the help of five other super-androids (Neuros), they improved the post, allowing it to receive data and be viewed by Bill’s internal eyes, much like a dream or memory would appear.
With further enhancements, they fitted several spies and other important characters in the story with the implants enabling them to communicate silently as if on their own private network.
This became essential to spies and maintained its usefulness through other storylines.
Chapter 4 – Memory Access / Recall
(The essential discovery to all storylines)
Both the 2129 Series and the Intervention Series are based on Griffin and Bill Bailey having the ability to query, intercept, convert (from brainwaves to audio and video), and in Griffin’s case, display memories. First by using a helmet, and later enhanced so memories could be accessed telepathically from those who were within a fifteen-to-thirty-meter range. This is explained in great detail in 2129 Series Book #1. I’ll give you the abbreviated version here.
In 2129 Bill was hypnotized by using a drug to relax the “memory center” in his brain. This allowed him to respond to verbal questions from a doctor. They were looking for subconscious memories of his surgery performed when he was partially awakened to fix his auto accident injuries.
It was during the surgery, fifty years after Bill’s death, that a new experimental drug was used to speed the healing process. The surgical procedure of setting broken bones and fixing other injuries was quite painful even as Bill was only partially revived. As a side note, this experimental drug also reversed Bill’s age from sixty-nine to thirty-five.
The hypnosis session was recorded and while watching the recording, Bill asked Griffin if he thought they could replicate the process; replacing the 2129 drug with technology. Bill wanted to view his after-death memories to see what happens after we die. 2129 Series Book #1 goes into a great deal about what was recorded.
It was incredible!
They came up with an idea to use sensors to target where they believed the memory center was, then queried it with a verbal question as the doctor did, and intercept the brain’s responses to the questions: the memories themselves. Once intercepted, Griffin would use his power to convert them to video of what the memory recorded, along with its audio.
Griffin was able to rework the helmet used for telepathic communications, and after individual adjustments to the sensors, he was able to find and query the memory center.
There is a great deal of storyline built around this discovery and how it might be used for good and how it might be misused by our government. The bottom line was; that they were able to make a “machine” out of the helmet so doctors would use it in treating trauma patients.
Griffin continued to enhance the process, eventually allowing for telepathic querying and recalling of memories.
In both Series, reading targeted memories allowed our heroes to validate loyalties and discover meetings a target had with others concerning a specific topic. They couldn’t read someone’s mind, just their memories.
Transportation is fun, but the storylines revolve around these two capabilities: telepathic communications and telepathic memory recall.
Imagine, I’m sure you can, standing close to someone and asking them telepathically to remember an event. The Neuro androids could cast it to a screen where it could be seen as if you were the person being asked to remember.
“Remember when you were with Jane Doe, the night she was murdered.” Through the person’s eyes and ears, you would be able to see and hear everything as if you were there, invisibly. This power of interrogation would be incredibly powerful as the ULTIMATE TRUTH SERUM.
Bill couldn’t cast the memories to a screen, but he could access, view, and hear the memories returned using his implant.
Note: We were aware that people can have certain memories changed with intensive training or by being fearful or bullied. The original memories, however, stored in the brain are always truthful and accurate; void of any conditioning that might have taken place.
Chapter 5 – 1st Intervention Excerpt
(Excerpt from #1 – INTERPLANETARY AMITY)
Bill Bailey speaking:
This, my first intervention, was to work with a doctor during a time that would be similar to Earth in the early twenty-second century. The doctor was a specialist working on brain functions. She had successfully mapped several regions of the brain and was in the process of developing an instrument with sensors that could access the regions mapped.
As before and in all situations, there were several paths that she could take from this stage going forward. One path foreseen was to extract the essence of a person and download it into another human. We had been downloading memories for some time on Earth to increase the knowledge or expertise of someone in a profession requiring great skills. Memory downloads were safe and effective.
The path foreseen in her situation was; to replace the essence of a healthy person, with that of an old rich person. This was the plan of the foundation the doctor worked for. Our target was seemingly unaware of this, at this time. The only way this could be successful was to overlay the host’s essence, which would then cease to exist. They would be dead.
Dr. Sandra Weber was the scientist I would be working with. She stood five-foot-eleven and weighed about one-hundred-twenty pounds. She had long dark hair and was very attractive, with bright sparkling eyes, and a warm, inviting smile.
She was so dedicated to her profession however, she had no one close to her other than her computers and doctors working in her area of expertise. Obviously, she was exceptionally bright and engaging, if you were a brain specialist. Otherwise, not so much.
My mission for this intervention was to try to convince her of the consequences of human-to-human essence replacement.
Instead of Griffin accompanying me, I opted for Will (my dedicated android). Communications capabilities were upgraded between Will and Griffin for when I was on a distant planet.
After a week of prep, I was ready for this new experience.
Chapter 6 – 2nd Intervention Excerpt
(Excerpt from #2 – COLONIES)
Bill Bailey speaking:
It’s now been four months since Sandra’s death. I was making myself busy with Earth’s Federation activities when I received a silent message from Alpha and Theta, my two alien mentors. Alpha began,
Bill, I have some news for you. Theta and I are together and we have another intervention we thought you might be interested in. We know you still might be grieving for Sandra, but this one, both of us thought you’d enjoy, and give you something to occupy that fine mind of yours. It involves a planet much like yours during your eighteenth century. We hope you’ll be interested. Theta picked up the conversation.
We thought of you because of your great feelings for your country’s founding fathers. This planet is on the verge of many changes in governance, and they have powerful people and forces pushing several different agendas, none of which truly benefit the people. We thought you might be interested in applying your skills of persuasion, and other gifts, particularly now that you can cast their receptivity. And, as Alpha said, we also thought it was time for you to move on.
Well, thank you both. It certainly sounds interesting. Are there any physical changes that I will have to undergo or anything else I should know? Alpha responded,
There are no physical changes, but you’ll have to use your interpreter software to speak their language. We don’t see language as a problem. This will be very similar to your interactions with Sandra during your initial intervention. Again, both of us are very sorry for her accidental death. We know you had developed a caring relationship with her, as did your family.
Theta continued; This intervention is rather unique. It will allow you to take Diana (my ex-spy wife) along, if you so choose. It should take some time to plan a path for their success. The forces that favor oppression, as usual, have the upper hand right now. We believe your intervention can change that, if we can keep you alive that is.
Both friends chuckled recalling our many adventures as spies during the overthrow of communism in China.
Whose idea was it to include Diana? This wouldn’t be a ploy to make sure I accepted, would it?
I’m sure they were both laughing out loud. I thought it might be interesting, and I needed something to take my mind off Sandra and her death.
Let me bring Diana aboard and we can discuss what’s needed. It does sound interesting and Diana’s spy skills might come in very handy. I’ll contact her and ask her if she’d be interested. I think those spy skills will set the hook, as if you hadn’t already considered that. I’ll get back to you after we’ve talked. Bill out.
I left my office in search of my lovely wife. When I found her, I began.
“Hey, I was talking with Alpha and Theta and they have another intervention they’d like for me to consider. I’m sure they’re wanting to get me back into the action to take my mind off Sandra, and that’s okay. They have one that I can take you along on. Would you be interested?”
“You want me to join you on an intervention? Of course, I’ll go. I can keep you from falling in love and have some fun dusting off my spy skills if needed.”
We let my two alien mentors know and began to immerse ourselves in the background and history of our intervention target.

Because Diana was going to participate, she and I spent a good deal of time working with the Liaison for interventions from the Interplanetary Federation. Physical appearance would be taken care of with a completely new wardrobe. The language wasn’t going to be a problem as it seemed everyone had a slight dialect based on where they lived, their status, and who they surrounded themselves with. And the people we were going to be working with all had European features, so we thought we were set.
After viewing well over twenty hours of tape on the people we’d be interacting with, I knew why they chose me. If I didn’t know better, I’d believe we were going back to the 1770s in America.
The people were ruled by a King-type person with a standing army across the land. There were farmers, peasants, craftsmen, and everything you’d expect if you could time-travel back in our history.
The taxes, they called fees for the throne, were oppressive and the people generally lived in a caste system of haves and have-nots. Education (the ability to read and write at that time) was reserved for the wealthy or well-connected.
The caste system and lack of education were essential in keeping the masses in line, subservient to the throne.
Transportation and communications were much the same as on Earth during the nineteenth century. A simple form of combustion or steam-driven engines, but predominately horses and carriages. Weapons were similar to ours during the nineteenth century. Hunting by common folks caused most to own rifles, and they knew how to use them well. The climate was warm most of the year, similar to our southern states.
The spacecraft we were to use had a few new features. First off and like the first intervention, communications back to Earth were accomplished by the energy generated from the normal flowing of liquid energy. It being energy much like the fields of a magnet, there was no loss of materials in keeping it active for the entire length of our trip. The craft served as a tower with a range of several hundred miles based on the diameter and landscape of the planet. This enabled us to talk silently to everyone back on Earth in addition to one another.
The craft was equipped with sleeping accommodations and a bathroom. Water could be made from hydrogen and oxygen in the air, so if we wanted to, we could even shower. I didn’t see the need for it because we could be back on Earth in a blip, but it was there just in case.
As with another spacecraft, I could communicate with it by using my mind or my implant. It kept track of where we were at all times using the six-digit code of the three-dimension space. If we moved to another location, I could send a message that would bring the craft to me, hovering overhead, then land the vessel near me without being on top of anyone. I could then lower the ramp so we could see and enter the spacecraft.
Another feature we were equipped with was an invisible force field based on our implants. This was similar to the one Griffin was working on while we thought Theta was a hostile person, but much more powerful. It operated out of our implants and if activated, we would be shielded from most things that would cause damage to Diana and me. I wished I’d had this when the bullets were flying as we changed China’s governance. It was very cool!
The plan was to meet a Ben Franklin-type person (Sam) and give him a subliminal suggestion that we were his friends and had knowledge of a new form of governance: self-rule, being discussed among those who were unhappy.
Unlike in our history, women participated very actively at all levels, not quite as equals, but very close. Interestingly, they controlled the purse strings, so including Diana made sense. We were from another region and supposedly were a well-to-do family. A memory was placed in Sam’s mind that had him and us meeting on a prior trip to purchase goods to send back to our home.
Before we departed, I called Theta and asked her to join Diana and me for a brief talk. I began.
“Tell me a little about the planet and this country in particular. Except for parts of the transportation and weapons, I’d think we were going back to 1700 southern America. Was this your motive in recommending us?”
“Partially, but their situation is quite different. The entire planet has been stuck with totalitarian rule for centuries. In many other regards, they are the equivalent of your late 1800s, but severely hampered by their form of governance. They have great potential, but it won’t be achieved unless they change how they are governed.
“Your mission is to open their eyes to the potential for change.”
Chapter 7 – 3rd Intervention Excerpt
(Excerpt from #3 – TIME TRAVEL)
Bill Bailey speaking:
Bill, Diana, and Kim were enjoying a peaceful evening together in 2150, when Kim was struck by a Cho energy bolt: Bill must intervene. Using the implant enabling her to telepathically speak to others, she contacted Earth’s two alien mentors: Alpha from the Earth named planet Sigma, and Theta from the Earth name planet Sigma2.
Have you been contacted by Cho or the IFIP about a new intervention for Bill? Theta responded,
Yes. We have been discussing it, before contacting Bill. What do you know?
Only that he must intervene. I’ve tried to make contact to gather more information, but not being able to contact them, I wanted to see what you knew.
Have Bill join us in Alpha’s spacecraft in Bill’s backyard in thirty minutes. This one will be unique. Theta out.
~ * ~
As the ramp to the entrance of the spacecraft became visible, Bill and his two ladies went aboard. Bill began,
“Kim tells me there might be another intervention the IFIP might like for me to accept. Emily (former U.S. President) is handling Sandra’s team, and all appears to be going well in the Colonies, what do you know?”
Theta looked at Alpha before he began.
“This one is rather unique, even for an intervention. It involves a reptilian universe that has just destroyed most of the life on their planets. Cho believes it is important to reverse the events causing the devastation, thus changing the course of their history.”
The three humans were dumbstruck. Diana spoke,
“Did I just hear you say, they want to go back in time and change what happens to avoid the destruction and loss of lives? How can that be?” Theta explained,
“As you know, Cho took Bill into the future to keep him participating in Earth’s events after you had just found out you were with your first child. Cho can also, apparently, facilitate going back in time and altering events that result in changes to today.
“Alpha and I have been discussing this since we were informed that Bill would be requested to take this intervention. This one will be very risky to Bill, and possibly all of us who love him.”
Alpha continued, “This is a reptilian planet, meaning the people of the planet evolved with certain reptilian appearances and a more aggressive attitude than we as humanoids. We don’t believe it would be wise to change Bill’s appearance, so we were thinking about how he might have an impact in his current form. We’re also concerned about how Bill might have to adapt to the culture he would be submerged in.”
Theta followed, speaking to Bill. “You have been quite successful in using your casting gift with both of your previous interventions. The natural aggression in this culture may be too great for you to cast someone to be receptive to your interactions.
“The physical strength of the reptilian species is much greater than that of the humanoid species. The combination of both might be lethal to you. This species has never been contacted before, so we fear what might happen before you could even begin to be of assistance.” Alpha continued,
“Besides all that, we have never participated in traveling back in time, to affect the current time. Neither of us would be able to assist you. If you go back in time, our relationship doesn’t exist yet. We’re also concerned with how you might return, or even IF you can return.”
Kim began, “My message from Cho simply stated Bill must intervene. I don’t believe any harm might come to Bill from the time travel, but I’m concerned about what physical harm may come to him in a hostile environment with an aggressive culture. This sounds extremely risky to me…”
Diana wanted her opinion to be known. “Help me understand why Bill should even consider this assignment.”
Theta replied, “The fact that Bill comes from the twentieth century might have something to do with it. Men were more aggressive at that time and you have to admit, Bill’s background in the military and with all his spy activities makes him a prime candidate.”
“Perhaps from Earth, but what about someone from another universe? Surely, there are more aggressive environments out there, maybe even some reptilian that would be more suitable for this. I love my husband. My family and our friends love Bill. None of us would encourage him to take this assignment going into the environment you are describing. Why are we even having this conversation?”
Alpha surveyed those in his craft before responding.
“Cho would not have recommended Bill, if he were not the most qualified person to take the assignment. With their ability to see into the future, they must think he can, or rather will be successful. Theta and I have been discussing your concerns and others since we were contacted.
“We mitigated the risks with our knowledge of Cho and what goes into an assignment. For them to tell Kim what they did, we believe they have considered all the alternatives and surmised that Bill is the best choice for success.” Theta took over.
“We are awaiting a response to our question: can Griffin accompany him? Bill has the electronic shield Griffin built for him that we believe will protect him from bullets or such. It will not protect him from hand-to-hand combat injuries. Bill is in excellent shape and if we knew his memory access would work, we’d all feel much better. But we don’t.
“We know the brains of the two species are very similar, but we’re not sure they are similar enough for him to use the hypnotic sleep capability he has for defending himself. We’re fairly sure about his casting capabilities will be effective, but it might not be as strong as it is with humans.
“The reason we wanted all three of you here, is because we know Bill will want you to be comfortable with his decision. With all that being said, we hope Griffin will be able to go with Bill to make adjustments or give him support when needed physically. Bill?”
“Well, besides our children, these two lovely ladies would have to understand my reasoning, IF I were to accept this assignment. Having Griffin accompany me would certainly provide an extra level of protection, and I’m assuming he could tap into their networks to provide valuable intel.
“Let me discuss it with the family. When you tell me whether or not Griffin can accompany me, I’ll give you my decision. Thank you both for your input and concerns.”
Intervention Series Overview
(Overview of books and storylines)
It’s an adventure series with lots of action, discoveries, supernatural forces, and mystery, somewhat fashioned after the 007 James Bond adventures, but with reversed gender roles. It’s also about personal and societal changes, values, friendships, romance, and advances. There are shocking surprises with leading characters, the continuous evolution of androids, and how man co-habits (downloads his essence) with an android leading to our first contact with aliens.
I don’t believe we will be contacted until something like what the 2129 Series describes. We’re not going to be ready until then.
The Intervention Series is a Star Trek-type adventure series where our heroes travel to distant planets and have a positive impact on an issue on the planet.
The characters and discoveries made during the 2129 Series continue to be used and expanded on in books of the Intervention Series. This continuation will add to your reading enjoyment as they continue to grow and interact. There may even be additional books in the 2129 Series, but the hope is; that this series will provide enough adventure and new interactions to keep everyone happy and busy.
Here is a summary of the books currently written (some may have follow-on adventures):
- INTERPLANETARY AMITY – another planet is following Earth’s pattern of mapping the brain and what it controls. They have defined what they think of as the “essence” of a person and are on a path to replace the essence of one person with another, essentially killing the host person.
- COLONIES – similar to the American Revolutionary times on another planet, oppressed people revolt claiming their independence. With the technology brought by Bill, the revolution is more of a coup. See how wars could be avoided, if the technology were advanced as in the 2129 Series.
- TIME TRAVEL – a reptilian planet is destroyed with nuclear weapons. Bill is taken back in time before bombs flew to see if he can avoid Armageddon on their planet.
From the Author
There’s a certain joy I receive when interacting with others about what I’ve written. I enjoy explaining how predictions and discoveries come about, and I enjoy the interactions with those who have read my books.
I view the Intervention Series as a vehicle to expand on those interactions, where future books might be based on subjects YOU might propose. Where the 2129 Series provided the characters and technical advances needed to set the stage; the Intervention Series is how those tools (and people) might interact with other planets’ people at times of need or critical points in their development.
If you’re like me, you believe throughout man’s history, there have been interventions here on Earth. If you can take the leap with me on the advancement of technology (android evolution and space travel), and the two major discoveries (telepathic communications and telepathic memory recall), you’ll enjoy how “we” can help other civilizations on distant planets.
Also, as someone relatively new to the publishing industry, I think it’s in the middle of great change.
Self-publishing has expanded what’s available, particularly with e-books, and it has even called into question the role of major traditional publishing houses. Unless you just enjoy the atmosphere, why go to a bookstore, when Amazon gives you dozens of ways to find just the book you’re looking for?
Audiobooks are now making their mark in the industry and will (I believe) soon be taken over by AI “reading” (Artificial Intelligence converting written words to sound as if read by professionals). This will make nearly every book ever written available to be listened to. What an incredible change that would be!
The one area I believe is missing is a method of advancing interactions between the writer and reader/listener.
As an author, I will continue to write. With my background, my nature is to look for new and innovative ways to interact. I’d like your help, your ideas, and certainly your interactions. I believe together, we’ll be able to make something much better than what we have today.
So, I encourage you to join my email list and hope you will INTERACT with me going forward.
What would you like to see? What discoveries might you like me to pursue? How can I continue to develop the characters? Or what additional characters might add to our storylines?
Think about this for a moment, please. Technology is close right now, to what I believe will make books more interesting and easier to listen to.
In writing a series, I believe we’ll soon be able to interact with characters and storylines in an entirely different manner.
For example, what if you could “own” the series, and part of that ownership would be to be able to “recall” themes, backgrounds, situations, or similar things, on demand? This ability to transition, I believe would improve your listening pleasure.
The concept would be; that I can segment the characters and the storylines so while you’re reading, or perhaps more accurately listening to a book, you’d be able to pause to hear the background of Bill’s after-death experiences. Or, while reading about Bill and Diana’s adventures in the COLONIES, pause to recap (or even fully listen to) how Bill and Diana fell in love.
The examples are endless, but unavailable today. With your help on what you’d like to see, I think we’d be able to open an entirely new way to enjoy a book.
If this appeals to you, or even if you’re just curious about what the heck I’m talking about, please join my email list and drop me a line from time to time.
I’d love to hear from you.
Sincerely, Bill DeFoor.
